composting

roggae
i know Earth Girl and a few others compost.  my question is is there a way to compost w/o buying a compost bin you see in catalogs?  like can i do it in something i can buy at lowes/homedepot/walmart?  any infor is appreciated!!!

rogg, all you really need, is someplace to make the pile. I have a 3 sided box, 2x12's nailed together to form an open ended box. Containers aren't required.

I am going to do mine with cinder blocks.

Another important thing about a compost is to turn it every so often. Also try to let the sun hit it....I believe the heat from the sun is what starts the compost to do its cycle.

what about worm composting?  anyone know anything about this?  outdoor composting with dogs can be difficult.....

Worm composting or Vermicomposting is a slow process where one can convert small amounts of organic materials, such as kitchen scraps, into worm castings and or worm teas.

Composting a pile.  The pile must be large enough to build up heat.
A 3 foot wide , deep , high pile can heat up ok.

It's easier with a twin bin system..

great websites guys.  anyone know of any tutorials with pictures of how to make a three level worm composter?  this sounds like a great idea....thanks again

Don't know how to make one but I seen them on ebay for under $40 for a 3 bin set up
