I've lived and learned this art for a little while here in the TN area.
I start seedlings in early March. Give'em yer normal high nitro fert of your choice. I personaly have great success with a combo of chicken manure in the soil base, ferting with fish emulsion and Miracle grow.
Seedlings grow in clear plastic party cups until they have had their first topping and weather conditions are right to be set out in prepared holes.
At this point, I usually give them a hearty dose of B1 fert during transplanting into permanent holes. This really makes them come alive.
Then just lots of sun, good fert schedules, good ph readings, and lots of topping.
