What is the correct PH for explanded Clay pellets?

fastcompany
I am growing in Hydrocorn.  Everytime I take the small rooted plants (rooted in 1 inch rockwool)and transplant them to the stone bed, they go yellow with purple stocks, and are stunted.  Once I get them past the first few weeks (whatever survives!), or 8 inches, they seem to go just fine, but are thin in the stem from being stunted.

I have heard many opinions on what the PH should be in this medium, but would like another opinion.  I was told between 5.5 & 5.8....I have mine set at 5.7.  Today another person who seems to do pretty well at this, told me between 6.2 & 6.5   Any answers please?  Another point.  My EC right from the tap is at .750.  this seems a little high.  Yes\no????

Thanks all

Hydroton is inert. Ph is based on growing phase. Start at 5.4 for veg, increase throughout flower to around 5.8
Your problem is your water. Too much calcium in it, and I bet you're not letting it sit over night? Correct the water...

Thank you very much.  I will try starting with a lower PH.

How do you correct the water?  Fix the Calcium?

I have just installed a water filter, but the EC reading is still at .700  and the PPm at 350.  I never know what reading to go with  PPm or EC.  The conversion of EC to PPM varies with the Manufacturer of the meter.  Mine is a Hanna, and is set at a .500 conversion.  Any thoughts?

let your water sit for around 24 hours before usage dewd

The University of Minnesota uses the following formula for EC: TDS conversion -
For any EC between 0.0 and 0.9 multiply by 680 to get TDS
For any EC of 1.0 and higher multiply by 700 to get your TDS. Thats what I go by anyways.
Again, as my punk brother Misti re-iterated, let the water sit out overnight before you use it.
That won't help your EC problem, but it will allow the chlorine and ammonia to evaporate. The Ch and Am can cause nutrient disorders and PH fluctuations. You can also use the GH 3 part series designed for use with tap water. It has 1/5 the calcium of the regular 3 part.
If that doesn't solve your problem, get an R.O. water unit.
