Ok this is kind of a long story but I will try to make it sort.  After many years of struggling with mood problems, I finally went to a docter and I have been diagnost with bipolar.  And on top of did I am slightly physically addicted to alcohol, meaning I am a freguent and heavy drinking and when I stop drinking for a day I have mild withdrawl sytoms, enough to be irrated by them, just not severe enough to be life threating.  Here is my problem I have just started taking mood stablizers to have with my mood swings and part of the is getting really annoyed and blowing up at people for no reason, or getting really annoyed at stupid things.  On top of that as long as I keep drinking no mood stabilizer will help because the alcohol is being counterproductive.  Now since I have some physical addiction to ligour, I have a get mental addiction to it.  So I am trying to get off ligour at the same time the my annoyance level is very high and I have been blowing up and snapping at my best friend and family for no reason.  I believe not drinking is making me more "manic"/ more annoyed.  Does anyway have any suggestions on how to control those outbursts and how to get over mental addictions???  Because really I can;t stablize my moods with I drink and I can;t stop drinking because of my moods.  Any advice would be useful.  Thank you for your time??

Get yourself into something physically demanding: jogging, swimming, hiking, Kung Fu, Yoga, T'ai Chi Chuan, shit...Taibo will even do it.
Go for walks, climb trees, and get the fuck away from the computer screen.
Drinking too much is only an excuse to not be intently active. Stop drinking, and ask someone you know PERSONALLY for help. The best you will get from anyone annonymously online is text.

Self-medicating is common. But the mood stabilizers and alcohol can be very dangerous! Knock your seratonin levels into a frenzie, and you'll wind up doing more harm than good to yourself. Try to talk to a pdoc(psych doc) or a therapist. It's more than common for Bipolars to develop external comorbid conditions ie: Substance abuse, OCD, and many others.

And also, a therapist is the one who'll help you find out why you're self-medicating with alcohol.

I have a cousin who is bi-polar they have her on lithium at this point her diet is the worst Ive ever seen and always has been she barely eats or drinks water, she drinks alcohol everyday, and when she does eat its junk food! her body and brain are screaming for the proper nutrients. How is your diet now Elcajon? I do know that if your diet is comprised mostly of junk foods it will effect your condition  greatly in fact there was a study done on criminals and they found that most criminal minds exist on junk food(not saying youre criminal) meaning they eat mostly junk like soda, candy bars, chips all day no fresh fruits or vegetables  etc. etc. . There was also a direct link found between certain types of deptression and bad diet as well(of course you body needs 'healthy' food to feel good nothing less reading up on how the body works will help) they also found that a lack of B vitamins creates schizophrenia in some people, in fact they found when giving "some" shizophrenics a B vitamin supplement everyday for a couple months that they actually had no more symptoms of shizophrenia! Now dont get me wrong Im not saying your condition or all cases(some are, some arent) are due to vitamin, mineral and healthy food deficiency however some are and I will guarantee you if you eat an 'extremely healthy' diet and substitute sodas and beer with water for the next few months you will notice a huge difference guaranteed(if youre not already doing so). An extremely healthy diet changed my life suffering from seizures.

So many conditions are linked to OR are made worse by an unhealthy diet or lack of nutritional needs being met. This is a fact. Your body is a living entity and is made up of mostly water and living cells therefore feeding it living foods like fresh fruits and vegetables etc etc and drinking plenty of water gives your body exactly what it  needs to work at peak performance. Im not saying this will heal your condition completely(that all depends on why your suffering from it), I am saying it can make your condition much, much better...hope this helps some and good luck.

A few notes, first of i am physically actively, I am a 2nd degree black and I go to classes often I also lift weights and run.  I am also the type of person to have as many opinions as possible, I have talked to friends and they have told me certain things.  I have been seeing psych doc and in addition to that on tuesday I am starting to go the a therapist.  As for my diet SD it is in fact very shitty.  I don;t eat on a regular basis sometimes I won;t eat, and then when I eat I eat crap and/or fast food.  I don;t drink a lot of water, to be honest I don;t drink a lot of fluid besides alcohol.  Like I said I respect everyone on here and I wanted additional opinions and insites besides what I am doing in person.

El Cajon your post Title says "help" and Im going to try and do that as best I can. As far as diet is concerned youve said that yours is shitty. Nothing to be ashamed of many of us are raised on shitty diets and then continue to eat that way throughout our lives because its all we know!

I can tell you that a person can survive on junk food but they arent living if you can understand where Im coming from. I was raised in an Italian family. My families diet stinks! At the age of 23 I decided to change that after reading up on the human body and the effects of junk food on the body. I could see that I was already suffering from some of the things they said junk food would do to the human body. So I changed it and it helped! However I began to drink too much juice and eat too much fruit and my blood sugar was dropping because of it. What happens is Your body produces insulin to deal with blood sugar in some people they produce too much insulin and in turn it causes a sharp drop in blood sugar. Alot of people in America are  going through this peak and drop of blood sugar everyday all day. They get tired and they drink more soda they get tired again they drink more soda etc etc. Soda has to be one of the WORST beverages for the human body on the face of this planet! The amount of sugar in one soda is amazing and its horrible to consume that much sugar all day long. Alcohol is the same its loaded with carbs and sugars thats why alot of hardcore alcoholics end up with Diabetes. The list goes on and on the Current Western World diet is the worst in History for health ailments guaranteed. This is one of the reasons why Cancer, Diabetes(type 2), and Acid reflux are at an all time high these days. proccessed foods do not provide the body with what it needs to work at "peak" performance(peak being the keyword here) this is a fact. Changing the diet is the hardest part, once you do you'll never go back. of course its gonna take alot of time to clean out your system of the toxins so you cant expect results immediately however if you stick with an extremely healthy diet drinking plenty of good water(not tap!) along with it. You will see results guaranteed!...I highly suggest getting with a qualified nutritionist that has experience in dealing with people who are suffering from what you suffer from.
