Damn chillin at the keyboard today.

Cancer?

Well My first reaction was hell no but I thought I'd look it up.

I believe if there was proof that MJ use had a cancer risk that was proveable it would pop up on google for sure.

the closest I found so far is this snippit

------
A chemical found in tobacco smoking, benzopyrene, causes genetic damage in lung cells that is identical to the damage observed in the DNA of most malignant tumors of the lungs. Although scientists have been convinced in the past that smoking causes lung cancer, the strong statistical associations did not provide absolute proof. This paper absolutely pinpoints that mutations in lung cancer cells are caused by benzopyrene.
An average marijuana cigarette contains 30 nanograms of this carcinogen, compared to 21 nanograms in an average tobacco cigarette (Marijuana and Health, National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine report,1982). This potent carcinogen suppresses a gene that controls growth of cells. When this gene is damaged, the body becomes more susceptible to cancer. This gene, P53, is related to half of all human cancers and as many as 70% of lung cancers.

It's hard to say perhaps, just how many people have or had lung cancer and only smoked weed...

Then again I remember a story about a woman married to a tobacco smoker who died of lung cancer and was not a smoker.

I see nothing about cancer and second hand marijuana smoke.

I'd have to say that it's possible however, it looks like no direct proof has been discovered.

I'm not woried.

umm if smoking is a cause for cancer then duh.
All good things are bad for you.

If Marijuana causes cancer then why do they give perscriptional marijuana to CANCER PATIENTS?
bad monkey
i was thinking the same thing BOM, maybee the whole pot=cancer thing is just a whole story created by the government to keep some people from smoking.

Inhaling any burnt plant matter over a long period has negative side-effects to the respiratory and circulatory systems. How severe these effects are depends on how well the individual's body heals itself, their diet, environment, amount of stress/exercise, etc.

MJ is prescribed for cancer patients that are suffering from nausea (usually caused by kemotherapy) or cronic pain.

If you ate marijuana, thats a whole different story.
Why they give it to cancer patients, fuck knows.
If i had cancer id smoke lots of pot too.
Joe Gardener

Well if benzopyrene causes the damage and pot has more than a tobacco joint I point out that most don't finish the Pot Joint or Chain smoke them.

Nuff said?

You know they have nice fancy words for a tobacco joint,it's called a cigarette.
