I'm a MMJ patient preparing for a quick trip out of state. I'll be flying, and have not attempted to travel with herb since 9/11. I was curious if anyone knows when and where I have a right to possess, outside of the state that I'm registered in as a patient? To put it bluntly, If I pack a few joints of leaf (I was thinking in my med bag, in a prescription bottle, along with all my other meds), are my things going to be confiscated? Will I be arrested? Am I allowed to possess? Should I attempt to pack the leaf and the Med Card together, in hopes maybe "they" will pass it by? Or would it draw more attention to something "they" might not notice? Any suggestions?

they will x-ray all your bags most likely -- definitely all carry-ons. if i wanted to travel with a few joints i'd probably wear shoes with long socks and tuck them into my sock at the top. if you get picked "at random" for an additional security check they will have you take off your shoes so they can check for plastic explosives (i guess), but i've never seen anyone take off their socks, too. they wave the metal detector around you a bunch, but never pat you down. in fact, they purposely try not to touch you most of the time -- probably to avoid lawsuits (what a wonderful country).
anyway, if that's not safe enough then you could put the joints in a small plastic bag and pin it to your underwear. just make sure you pull your pockets inside-out if they ask you to remove everything from them for that additional random security check. sometimes they will touch your pockets to make sure you took out everything, so if there's a pack of joints under your pocket they might feel it.
i've read some other clever ideas, but i forgot them. you could try using the search feature looking for keywords like airplane, flying, or travel.

I am not sure, but since MMJ is on a state by state basis and not federal then it would be which ever state you are in. On top of that I am not sure about the airlines. I would almost say it would be better not to take any, depending on how long you are going and what you have a prescription for. Good luck and I hope everything works out. I just thought of this get an sealed container of some sort, like a film case or something and put it in s shampoo bottle, that is how a friend of mine brother sent him stuff from amsterdamn, he had a tube with a cap but it in a shampoo bottle and mailed it.

why don't you call the airline and ask them? it may be legal to travel with it as long as you're a medical user.

marys got a great idea there .. here is my latest experience on airport security .
You will have to remove your shoes prior to clearing security (hats also ) . they will Xray your shoes & all carry ons , coats etc. .. You will walk thru a metal dectector & they will do a quick scan with a wand .. if your clean ( no metal ) the odds are thats it !
if you BEEP , they will pat you down & go over you again . until they are satisified your no a terror threat ..
i usually jock a 1/4 or so . without any problems ..

nothing against you mellow, but i cant stand putting joints in my socks. whenever i pull it out to burn its soaked in nasty sweat.
if i am going to try it, its like kenny said, its tucked up with my junk.
and i'm pretty sure that your mj card is only valid in the state it was issued. We have to take a stand eventually, the people in charge cant push us around forever.
imagine the airport security when you produce the cannabis, "We consider MJ a weapon because if you got the pilot stoned he would crash the plane" lol.........

I am a frequent traveller, part of my career.... I have been thru airport security dozens of times since 9/11, and I have a little system that has never failed --
For us guys, Like u said, tuck it with ur junk hehe... but for added security against sniffing dogs, do the following:
1. sanitize your hands, then put on sterile plastic gloves ...
2. open up one of those baking bags that you cook chickens in, and CAREFULLY place your bag of herb inside the baking bag. The point is not to let any resin glands touch the exterior of the baking bag (the baking bags are impervious to odours) ...
3. now, without touching the exterior of the baking bag, remove your gloves and sanatize your hands again ...
4. neatly cut the baking bag down to size, and fold the end over a few times ....
5. use an iron on the low setting to seal the bag shut
6. just cause im paranoid, i usually place this sealed baking bag within another sealed baking bag.
7. go to the bathroom and remove crotch-bag once your airborne, it starts to chafe after a while hehehe

I am extra paranoid because i frequent LGA and JFK airports in nyc frequently, and they have some pretty gnarly security sometimes, including drug/bomb dogs which sniff with the baggage screeners ... Sniffing dogs have passed right over me using this technique ..

yeah that sounds very secure. however, since you said you go through big airports like jfk then you would definitely want to be on the alert for new security technology. the big ones always get new shit first. on one of those high tech discovery channel shows i saw a lot of new technology that you might want to keep an eye out for.

Over the summer, I flew in and out of Logan International in Boston the week before the DNC. I could have had an entire duffle bag full of mj as long as it didnt' set off a metal detector, or smell. I don't know about the X-ray machines though. I'd do what Green said.
