No pete, i didnt mean slower growth as in finishing flower later or earlier, just the actual speed of the growth itself. The slower it grows, the more potent the final bud, though saying that if its true i want to try some fully fluro stuff coz i havent .Only a theory ive surmised from seeing the diff between soil and hydro. But its a thought, ive never been able to take them right through under fluros so not sure on that one.

So then, if they grow slower under flos, yet still flower within the proscribed time period, is it safe to say that the yield would be less than under a 400W HPS, for instance? But superior in quality?
BTW, PTKO, you are one of my HEROES!!! I was LOST my first grow cos of heighth restrictions. Then I was referred to and read your fine JOG post in the FAQs. Saved my life, dude.
Great pictures. It never occurred to me that the plant would grow up toward the light. Your pics of the almost harvest-ready plants really made it all click in my head.
I will always be grateful to you for that post of yours.

Depends nugs, new challenges are always good, but yeh the amount of decreased quantity is definately why i havent tried it up till now. And if it was just quantity i was after, it would be hydro all the way.
And cheers Pete . :)

Yeah you can put flo's closer to the plant tops than HPS. Works good for the first few inches. Then you have the same low pentration problem. You could use lots of cfl's--at a high price--but you'll still have the same low penetration. In addition, lumen for lumen, HPS are far cheaper to operate. Flo's emit 75 lumens (what plants use) per watt (what thge utility charges you), HPS emit 125 lumens per watt--almost 2x as much, for the same price.
Weed is not better if it takes longer to finish. Maybe you'll be jones-ing harder.
I use HPS start to finish.

not the new HO flous my 4 lamp 200w HO T5, puts over 20,000 lumens runing 200w(93lumens per wat), my 400w hps puts out 53,000? lumens now if my 4 lamp was an 8, i'd have 40,000 lumens not that far behind hps, there definatly catching up, heres a link with info, and u could buy one for less then half price here: http://cgi.ebay.com/4-lamp-T5-High-Output-Floro-T-5-grow-light-MIXED-BULBS_W0QQitemZ7724676175QQcategoryZ42225QQcmdZViewItem you can also get 1000w hps here for like under $200, damn ebay's the only way;) alot are sayin lumens out, spectrum in anyways im doin a whole grow with the T5 and am in flower now, i was VERY impressed with the growth rate in veg, they grew way faster then i expected and even got burned a few times. i'll just have ta see if they do the same in flower im interested ta see how my yeild will be. very bright by the way the plants pretty tall now and not haveing a problem gettin light everywhere

Your claim of HPS being cheaper to operate may be valid, but if you're going to consider cost... check this out. I can get 20w CFL @ 1200 lumens at Home Depot for $ 1.00. That means for the cost of a 1000w HPS (125,000 lumens)even @ ebay cost of $ 200.00 I could get 200 CFL's (240,000 lumens output) for same price?

But you wouldn't have the right spectrum. You wouldn't have enought of the red spectrum even if you bought 20 000 lumens worth of CFLs. Lumens aren't everything. And if you bought 200 CFL's you would need 200 sockets and room to plug in 200 sockets, You would have to buy the sockets, even if they were only $1 each (wich there not) that would still be another$200 on top of the other $200, so that's $400 for CFL's. seems like a waste to me.
