I want to air cool my glass enclosed 1000w hps I plan on pulling cool air from the room next door and then exhaust to the attic.Do i need one fan in the intake and one in the exhaust. or just the exhaust pulling everything? what size fan should i get and can anyone recommend a quiet brand?

well theres two main types of fans. Inline fans are the round ones, with vent holes on either end. They work good for exhausting things. The other type of fan is a squirrel cage fan. They are good for blowing air into things. You can set either one up to do the other thing, like the squirrel cage to exhaust, or the inline to blow into somewhere, but they are most effecient the other way around. If i were you i'd get an inline fan, of the 6" or 8" size. I don't know enough about different brands to say whats quieter than the other though

so i dont need 2 fans to air cool hood just a good inline on the exhaust end. My hood openings are 4" would 4" be too small of a fan or do i have to use duct reducers

a 4" fan would probably work. But 1000 watts is alot of heat, and the more air flow the better. which is why i suggested a 6" fan or bigger. If its just for air cooling the light, a 4" should work. If its for the whole room, go bigger

CanFan and Elicent inline fans are very quiet when insulated ducting is attached to both ends. The elicent is quieter than the canfan, also the elicent is a bit more pricey. Also Vortex makes a pretty good quiet 6 in inline fan that moves a lot of air for its size.
