Alright there, this is my first post so hi to everyone and cheers to anyone offering help/advice...
Source of plant : bagseed Medium : Canna terra Pro+ grow soil (preferted) Size of Pot : I dunno, but its freakin big lol, about 9" wide and the same deep Nutrients : nitrozyme growth enzyme, planning on buying some bloom to help speed things up and for my next grow get some veg stuff, probably from growtechnology aswell... Watering : its getting around 3 pints every third day, however if i feel its light as a feather i'll give it a small top up Lighting : Phillips 250w HPS, currently covering 1 flowering plant and 2 seedlings as it were (i actually move my plant every night into another cupboard) Room size etc : cupboard grow, its about 3'wide by 5' deep with a top height of around 6.5' however its on a slant as its in the roof...
right now that the garbs over, my plants gone from a 9" lil plant to a 2' monster in about 2 weeks, this was my first grow and almost all problems did go wrong, i was noobish enough at first to have the light about 3' above the plant, that was changed fairly sharpish. It started life in general multi purpose compost which has been changed for the terro pro+ that i've got now (except the main root base is obviously still in shitty soil) and it was vegged for probably around 4-5 weeks i'd say (it did take its time i'll be honest), i hadn't read about alternating colas and this badboy definately didn't have em when i flowered it :S (if this is real bad can someone tell me now lol) infact it still isn't really alternating its colas the way the faq pointed out :S however, its turned hermie which for a first go in bad conditions i thought was okay and i'm still waiting to pass judgement on whether its hermie anyways...i was on overgrow for abit and they said just wait it out just incase i pass judgement too soon. right, its preflowers have loads of nice pistils. I've got 19 bud sites that i can see so thats looking pretty healthy, however i was wondering how i can slow this badboy down so that it gets some more concentrated budding. I've flowered it now for 3 weeks to the day, and its grown up alot more than out (except on the lower branches where its a veritable jungle). Is it safe to top it (do i want to top it aswell??i read the top buds the best, and i've got another foot tops in my grow room i suppose) and in so doing will i then just double my top cola or will it disappear. I'm abit confused about whether i can do it now, or if theres a method of training i can use that'd be better...i'd post pictures but i can't really work out where to add em :S
If you need anymore info just ask, and again, thanks to anyone that passes along any help, its much appreciated and always kindly recieved (critisms aswell :P)
Cheers Dcrafty

Welcome. I'm a first timer also and GK is awesome.
Well, first thing I'll say is you likely assume the alternating nodes must appear on the main stalk. They don't. If you find them anywhere on the plant the plant is mature enough to put into flowering.
Considering the importance placed on alternating nodes, I imagine it's bad to start before. With the number of bud sites you are seeing I suspect your plant had alternating on the side before flowering.
Are you seeing much hair/pistil growth?
Many here suggest to stay away from pre-ferted soil but a few grow in it exclusively. In the future I will prefer a neutral soil and provide my own fertilizer. I suggest Fox Farms. It's easy to use and will work from start to finish. The harvests I've seen from it have been impressive. Find the set on eBay.
A couple of times I though my plant may be hermie but they turned out not to be. Give us some pictures, that'll help a lot.
I don't think you should top your plant so far into flowering. Just let this one go.
You may want to read about "training" to keep your plants smaller. I know little about it though.
Also look into "supercropping" as a choice other than topping. Search for it here.
