after you install and run the program just click the Open/New button to select the image to resize. specify a new width or height; the aspect ratio will be kept so you only have to change one. for portraits i usually make them 420 pixels wide, and for landscapes i do 550 pixles wide. with quality set to 80% the resulting file size will almost always be small enough to upload to your gk garden. finally, click the Resize button followed by Save As to choose a new filename (or replace the original). voila!
