ive had a seedling thats been frustrating me for 3 days now. it came above the soil line with its seed intact, then split it. but when the seed dropped off it seems like it left some kind of inner papery "shell" around the leaves, and they cant seem to break out. its a thin brownish-yellow membrane. i see it sort of peeling back, but the seedling is keeling back over and its stem is dark purple. only a bit of green is left at the top. is there anything i can do to help it ditch this shit around it or do i have to watch it die?

that happens to me. be very careful, but take a toothpick and very very carefully ease that membrane off.

wa, i cant thank you enough for the encouragement. i think if i had just left this thing alone it couldnt have survived. the membrane was actually only on one side, but was still holding the leaves together. i took a thumbtack, kinda worked around the membrane and loosened it, and then pinned it down, and with tweezers i GENTLY tugged the baby away. one little poke and the leaves split apart. i replanted it and now, i wait.
if this plant survives, im going to find this thread during flower and post a pic of it.

yeah my very first seedling ever did that, and i freaked out. i think thats why i joined this site:) but you have to remember, its delicate and everything, but not rice paper. i took my index finger and thumb and barely touched the membrane thing, and dragged my fingers along towards the tip, and the membrane tore right off. within 2 hours the 2 petals had fully opened up.
