Pests and Plant Problems
Spider Mite . . .

RkyMtnWayHigh69
Well, here goes . . . About a week or so ago I went to check in on my grow, which is at a friends place for better security, and noticed some webs and little fuckers running around on the webs. I immediatly harvested the 3 plants that were close to harvest, which seemed to be the main source of infestation. I hung those in the garage, which drops down below freezing a night, hoping the cold would take care of them on the harvested buds. After almost complete drying, it seems the fuckers are still there, just slower when subjected to freezing temps.
My grow is prepetual and I have 2 seperate room for veg and flower. I haven't noticed any in the grow room, but I'm sure their there. I still have 2 hydro plants in flower, bith are about 4-5 week into flowering. I also have two plants in 5 gallon pots which are about 2-3 weeks into flowering. In the veg room I have about 12 plants in hydro and soil. I've been using only Fox Farms Ocean forest for all soil plants, and still use the GH 3 part solution for the hydro plants.
After I noticed the little bastards, I went straight to the grow store to inquire about possible cures for my problem.(My plant problem, not all the other problems which exist in my life.) I was told the best thing is to chop all affected plants and steralize the entire grow area with beached water. Since I don't see any more mites on the remaining plants, I don't wanna chop if I don't need to. I was also told that this stuff called "SM-90" was great as a foliar spray, soil treatment when added to usual watering regiment. But, because mite quickly build a tolerance to treatments, I was also told to use this stuff called "Einsteins Neem Oil".(BTW, this stuff stinks bad!!!) I will be alternating between the two different treatments hoping they don't build a tolerance to both.
As far as the SM-90 goes, I think it's got a sort of fruity smell, and I used it in the soil/rez of every plant since I noticed the mites. I use it as a foliar spray in veg and in flower, cuz the flowering plants aren't too close to harvest and I hope to eliminate the SM-90 smell/taste with fresh water spaying after the infestation is under control. The Einsteins Neem Oil has a super nasty smell, sort of like 90 weight oil used in vehicles rear ends. So, I haven't tried to use it on the flowering plants, but just got done with the first application on the vegging plants. I only used it as a floiar spray on those veg plants. I just wanted to outline the steps I've taken to this point. If anyone has ANY info or links to other info, I'd LOVE to read more about these bastards, so as to not ever have to deal with them ever again.
Also, just to let ya know . . . I have searched the FAQ's and read alot of posts on the subject, but need more info still.:(
Once again, ANY/ALL info would be greatly appreciated. PEace Clones/Clonettes!!!

if you have them real bad a sulfer vaporiser works great on the little bastards they are a bout 125.00 on the net
but it handles the little buggers and also handles mold if you have it it creates sulfer dioxide don't breath it  use according to directions it will make the enviorment so bad they leave  it is also good for the plants from what I was told  good luck   i TRYED NEEM OIL  with no luck  if you use it make sure you spray the bottem of the leaves as that is where they hide  1 other product is Avid 0.15ec my friend had good luck with it  and she was infested bad  it cost like 90.00 for 8 ounces  that mixes 1/2 ounce per gal of water it is a miteacide  good luck  Dan

Damn, that sucks!!!

I've used neem oil, but not on flowering plants. I don't see how you could use it when plants are in flower.
It is an oil and coats the plant. I've used it during veg and it worked very well, although some of the leaves looked like they were 'fried' after the third application and sitting under the HPS.

If you use it on vegging plants, make sure to get the underside of the leaves well coated.

hey rckymtn, here's a link to a thread i started about the same problem.  i hope it helps.
mite problem

here's a PM from a GK member that was helpful.  thanks 4Q

dunno how you're going to tackle the problem. But I can tell you "my" experiences, make a couple suggestions, then you'll have to weigh the info and decide.
I dunno how much "control" you have over your environment, but there is much to be gained with the temp and humidity control. Especially in veg. Their cycle also seems slowed with the extended hours of light, so eliminating them during veg cycle seemed easier.
Another option would be to take them into the shower nd "briskly" spray them off, "thouroughly", tops AND bottoms of leaves. It won't do your buds any good, but it will wash off 'most' of the critters. At least you aren't smokin' them. Get a fan circulating on them to aid drying will prevent mold. Mites don't like wind either. A little "Katrina" treatment

My point was, it's a tuff call, kill everything, clean and start over from scratch is frustrating to think about. But no less than failing to totally eliminate them, first try, and having a new, more resistant pheno re-appear.
They can be eliminated in the grow, but it requires consistant treatment and a constant vigil for a few weeks.

good luck my growkind friend.

i got mites on my second grow , went to grow shop and they advised me to get some mites to kill the mites(depending on what mites you have)
so i did . the mites i bought were in a little plastic jar some were still in the eggs ready to hatch.
when i got home i sprinkled the jar onto the infected plants and left them  for the night.
next day red mites all over the place beating fuck out of the nasty mites(never seen owt like it )10 red mites to 1 nasty mite.

ten days later nasty mites all gone , red mites all over attic looking for something to eat.
carn't fault them really , they did there job and some were still around when i started my next grow.

Definitly thanks everyone for all the valuable info. I've so far used, SM-90 on veg and flower and neem oil on veg and droped 2 nukes (Foggers) in veg and 2 in flower. Each about 10 days apart.
I totally see a difference in the amount of living mites. I noticed that I eliminate all the adults with the foggers and the SM-90 turns most of the eggs unviable. I'm still having the ones that didn't get eliminated by either stage. They seem to only be in the flower room, so far anyway. I intend on continuing to use the described regiment for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will end the mite problems.
I will keep you all updated with future results. Again, thanks for all the help from all ya all!:)
Peace Clones/Clonettes!!!

****UPDATE**** I was able to go look in on the plantstoday and was suprised to see no living mite, a few dead mite and mostly black eggs. (Which I assume means they're dead, or the equlivent of dead.) I still see a few clear/opaque eggs, so I'll continue the treatment for another week at least.
I will be sure to keep total record of this entiree infestation so I'll be able to post what worked.;) Thanks again everyone for all your help.;)
Peace Clones/Clonettes!!!
