"WHEN TO HARVEST"
Harvesting is one of the most important things a grower should know.Harvest too soon or too late and you will miss out on valuble THC. That's the name of the game "THC", It's the main ingredient that gets you high.
If you are really serious about growing you should invest in a 10x-30x eyeloupe. The thingy a jeweler sticks in his eye to look at diamonds. The main thing you will look at is called a trichome (try-comb) also known as a resin gland. Under microscopic view they look like tiny mushrooms and the "cap" is where the thc is held.Most plants have them and in scientific terms it's known as a glandular trichome.
Now down to buisness. what to do:
When It gets close to the time of harvest you will see the pistles (hairs) starting to turn brown,red,purple depending on the strain. But don't be impatient, depending on the strain you may still have several weeks up to 1-2 months before it's time. The trichomes from eye view appear to be tiny diamonds around the bud which give some strains a "frosted" appearance. Under magnification they should appear clear and as it is completely mature it will start to turn "Milky".As Thc degrades into two other chemicals cbd's and cbn's( the chemicals that give you a sedative effect)the trichomes start to turn darker.Some people prefer a more sedative effect and prefer darker trichomes but if you want full potency and cerebral high harvest when the trichomes are clear to Milky.As a very general rule an indica usually matures around 50-55 days and a sativa can take as long as 60-70 days and this is also dependant on the strain.As far as using the pistle(hairs) method(judging by how many pitles turn darker),i've heard everything from 40% to 90%.according to Ed Rosenthol you should harvest when atleast 50% of the hairs change from white to a darker color.
