#1 Would it be easier on my a/c to cool a bigger room. My current is 4x6x7, I think if I expanded to 6x6x7 there would be more air to cool but that would mean more air to disperse the heat. If that makes sense. #2 I have a 1k in a 28 inch round sealed dome reflecter with a fan pulling air through. If I took the bulb out of the dome and hung it bare over the plants would it create more heat? Right now if the a/c were turned off it would raise the temps around 10 - 15 degrees above outside temps. It seems like a bare 1k would just start cooking the plants but there are alot of people that do this. I want to expand my flower room for more space, would y'all add to the highth of the room as well? Maybe a 9 foot cieling instead of 7. I know heat rises so that would give some heat a place to be besides around the plants.
Dude. Why do you think AC units have ratings re: room size. The bigger the room, the harder for same unit to cool. An air-cooled hood will definitely keep temps lower. If temps weren't an issue, than expose the light (I did with my 400/600 air-cooled). In your case (as it sounds), leave it alone 'till after the summer heat is over with, atleast.
ok well im thinking an air cooled hood still gives off radiant heat and its forced down to the plants by the hood. A bare vert bulb the heat willautmatically rise to the ceiling away from the plants. but you do loose the cooling effect of the sealed hood. seems a catch 22. I knew one guy who put a box fan blowing up from under the vert bulb. plus in a vert set up the plants arent nder the light but surounding it. so all ive dne here is confuse myself. sorry to be a worthless contribter here. DAMN OG KUSH!!!!!!!!! :flyy:
The a/c is like 9k btu. The dome is pulling air from outside through a hole in the cieling and blowing it out of a hole in the wall, All sealed of course. The reason I thought to expand the room is if I got a 1k putting off x amount of heat into the room, it would have more cool air to mix with before the a/c tried to start cooling it. How big of a room/ac do you need for heat not to be a problem. A 150 mh bare bulb with the a/c blowing on it puts off a good amount heat for the a/c to have to cool. I guess it would take a big wall mounted 15-20k btu or bigger unit.
Man...you live in Texas with that dinky MF ac lol Shit man i dont keep anything less than 12 k btu and 1 is 25k btu in the area with the grow and stuff good kuck and just messing but man....you need More BTUsasssit:
it stays between 71 and 77. the walls of the room is insulated as well as the dome part of the 1k light. That was the best I could do at the with the a/c. It was pretty new in real good shape for a 100 bucks. The only vent for the flower room is an exhaust fan blowing air into the veg room on those plants. I don't have an a/c in there so thats how I keep that room cool, it blows right over the tops of the veging plants and on the 150 mh. bulb. It stays about 85 in there. So I need atleast a 18k much bigger than that i'll have to run 220 to it. The rooms are a 12x5x7 plywood box I built inside the back of my barn, so it's not like a shed out back I am trying to keep cool. Thanks for all the advice folks.
