Glendale News-Press By Darleene Barrientos, News-Press GLENDALE -- Six people were arrested and more than 2,000 pounds of what police believe is high-quality British Columbian marijuana worth several million dollars was seized in an investigation between the Glendale and Torrance Police departments and the California Highway Patrol, officials said. Thomas Dunn, 57, and Steven Dunn, 26, of Toluca Lake, along with Erica Dunn 40, of Tarzana, and Toni Dunn, 54, of Encino were arrested April 5 on suspicion of sales and transportation of marijuana after search warrants were served in Chatsworth, Encino, Toluca Lake, Sanger, Tarzana, Burbank and Fresno. Police said the Dunns are related but did not elaborate. Robert Tanney, 54, of Sanger, and Henry Mathews, 61, of Sausalito were also arrested. The six suspects were being held Friday on $5 million bail each. The marijuana was found in a Chatsworth warehouse hidden in a shipment of ceramic pottery, authorities said. The 2,582 pounds of marijuana seized has an estimated street value between $7 million and $11 million, officials said. Several handguns, rifles, cars and an undetermined amount of cash were also confiscated when officers served the warrants, officials said. "The amount was well over in the thousands and thousands of dollars," said Glendale Police Lt. Gary Montecuollo, head of the department's special investigations bureau. Torrance Police spokesman Officer Dave Crespin said Torrance Police have worked with Glendale investigators on previous cases, and called for their assistance because of that agency's proximity to where the warrants were served. He said the marijuana seized originates in Canada and has a much higher quality and grade than its Mexican counterpart because it is grown indoors. The chemical levels in the Canadian drugs are known to be as high as 30-35% and sell for $5,000 a pound, he said. "The stronger the potency, the higher the value," Montecuollo said.
