Howdy everyone. Kinda sucky not being able to grow and take pics of my favorite plant in full bloom, but I can still take advantage of my second most favorite hobby... photography. Earlier this week I took a trip up the hill from my place to a secluded lil' creek I know of just to get away from it all and take in some serenity. While it's hotter than blazes in the lower elevations once up above 6000' it's still wet, green, and cool. Here I am at my destination which offers a couple camping sites if one was inclined to make a few day event out of things. You can see just how thick the forest up here is and how big the trees can get. all you Chevy lovers out there. My lil' ford always does me right as she did this day so I felt she deserved a lil' recognition here. Walking down to the creek I found this awesome waterfall over a fallen log. During the wet season this place is ragging white water and carves out a new creek bed each year so there's always something new to see when the waters recede. Having arrived of course it's time to smoke a bowl. I NEVER leave home without my travel pack. Once good and stoned I took my walk...camera in hand...to see what adventures I could find and get some shots off. First spot I found had these two HUGE cedar trees next to a massive boulder with a nice semi-flat rock at the bottom. I later ate my lunch here. This next spot I found was my favorite. Don't know why but it had a really good 'feel' to it. Was a lot of good chi in this place. If i could carve this out and place it in my backyard I would. This boulder was kinda cool too. Right above it was a really sweet pool resembling a bathtub made of granite from years of the water carving it out. I wasn't able to get a good shot of it I'm afraid. Here's where I stopped walking. By now I am a good ways away from my truck and I am starting to lose light so I decided to turn back. That fallen tree to the left was around 4' - 5' in diameter for size reference. Was a BIG mofo let me tell ya. I bet it made quite the noise when it fell....or did it? As I was making my way home this particular road tops out at around 7200'. At this elevation there are literally hundreds of these meadows spotting the landscape. I was at one end of the meadow. first shot to the left second to the right. You can see how far it goes and just how dense the tree line is. This is where the deer like to hang out. They can graze an imediately get lost in the woods if threatened. Looking down towards where I actually live. Was a really hazy day which sucked as far as a view went. All that smog is from San Francisco believe it or not. It's channeled down by the winds off the coast where it sits and I have to breathe it. I am noticing it getting further up in elevation too and it's slowly killing the trees. I should have gotten a shot of this one area, but it was so sad I didn't wanna remember it to be honest. So many dead trees. Well that's it. Hope you enjoyed the trip. very nice papy i saw those pictures a little bit ago in another gallery of yours ( no names now) very nice what was your favorite part of the trip? (Edited by Outdoorchronic at 11:29 am on Feb. 27, 2006)
I'm jealous of where you live. I'm an avid hiker and those are the area's that I try to find. When you get that good vibe or "chi" feeling as you put it. It makes life a bit easier. I was in a place like that the other weekend. The river running throught the valley was glacier fed, and the sky at night was clear as glass. Looks like you have a good concept of "The good life" there pappy. Looking forward to see what your next pic's are of. Later (Edited by Dew Drop at 1:34 pm on Aug. 22, 2005)
Damn Pappy that is some beautiful shots! I would love to kick back with a view like that! I'm really into hiking and exploring as well and theres nothing better then packing your tent and some food and just taking a trip out in the wilderness. That is some seriously good reflecting times to have and a lot of those just sitting and enjoying the day kinda times. It's also really good to take up a little fishing from time to time as well. Most excellent pics Pappy! It must feel good to be able to enjoying things like that! Good stuff! PeAcE ~edit~ can't spell today =) (Edited by HazeNHydro420 at 10:01 am on Aug. 22, 2005)
cool pics in the pic This boulder was kinda cool too. Right above it was a really sweet pool resembling a bathtub made of granite from years of the water carving it out. I wasn't able to get a good shot of it I'm afraid. is there someone standing on the waterfall
Feel like I was hiking with ya'...them pixs bring to life the area in which you reside, Pappy...sometime would you take a pix of yer' footprint though, so I's can prove to me friends that I do indeed actually know and communicate with a real live living and breathing Yeti of the coolest kind...they would be amazed...I just know it!...thanks in advance and happy trails to ya'...Pappasonn... blendin' baby doll...DC
Glad you all like the pics. It truely is nice to get back to nature. Could prolly grow some nice plants up this way if I hiked far enough up, but too many people frequent these creeks. I've actually seen guys in full cammo and loaded to the teeth coming down them looking for 'you know what'. Would be choice though. *daydreams* Outdoor...the whole day was my favorite part. I used to spend a lot more time up in these mountains when I was married. Had a 71' toyota landcruiser back then and just came up here to drive slow, check out the creeks, and get high the entire time. I make a day of it and with so few people around it's REAL easy to do. No cops up here and nobody gives ya any trouble. I pretty much did that very thing this time only I'm much more limited on where I can go without my 4x4. Dew @ Weedhed....you understand totally. Nothing else quite like it in the world and I am truely blessed to have this as my backyard. No doubt about it. Haze....I wish there were fish in this creek. So many people come up in these mountains that fish are rare unless planted. This creek is not planted and the few natives I found were only fingerlings at best as REAL skitish. But you are right. My ALL time favorite thing to do is walk a small creek with my pole hittin the pools as I go. Did that my whole life and will never tire of it. mjnewbie...no humans were injured or 'shot' during the course of this adventure....although intoxifying substances were involved. Daze...what can I say man? I try my best to bring the story to life thru pictures. If I can take ya there then I did my job. You want a footprint to prove I'm for real eh? Ok....you asked for it.
Here ya go Daze....don't go getting rich off my footprints now ya hear? But if ya do I get royalties.
hey! i dig that rock in the third to last pic! the one in the meadow. looks like a fun one to climb/ chill on. nice pics man! and hey, not having a grow may be a bummer, but it frees up alot of your time to take off and do what you want. Your not stuck at home with the paranoia. good times!
your camera is the ****....great pictures. Never been west, sadly the farthest west i've been is INDIANA!! hahaha Sure would like to visit california. Buy some land and build a farm.
Hey, hey...aw-rite...now we are talkin'...Pappy...THANKS!...Now no one can deny that I communicate with a Yeti...royalties...I'll keep ya' posted!... blendin' baby doll...DC
Thanks for the trip Herb. I, like everyone else thoroughly enjoyed it. Until th enext trip, Thanks bud.
Nice country Herb! It's great having places like that close to home when ya need to get away. I have places like that up here in Oregon/Washington as well. There's something very special about being in the wilderness, close to nature, no one else around....nice shots, thanks.
beautiful place and beautiful shots, pappy! i can walk again, but not hike, so thanks for letting me imagine myself there in this lovely site. you're a great photographer!
Real beautiful pics Pappy!!! Must be real nice to have places (with NO people for miles) like that close to home... I'm jealous! Some of those pics could be made into postcards! Nice photography man!! Damn.... I need another vacation!!
