can anyone help with some advice a to transplanting an outdoor plant. i want to move some due to location problems but they are just starting to flower. can this be done without causing too much shock at this stage of the game? any advice???
is the plant in the ground, or in a pot? If it is in the ground you will need to be very careful about digging up the roots, this might be impossible if the roots have tangeled with other vegitation's roots. If you plan on trying the transplant, make sure that you moisten the soil so that the soil stays in the roots and have a big pot with moist soil ready. It might stunt the growth anywhere from 1 day to a week, but I do think that they will be ok despite the fact that it is flowering.
yeah its in the ground but will move to a pot in case of future drama!! shes about 4 ft tall. what sort of a dig around should i give to lessen imapct on roots (ie; how do their root systems extend in relationship to their height?)
some people say that the roots mirror the size of the canopy. I don't know if that is true, but I wouldn't know what else to go by. To be honest, I have never made a move like this.
If they were veg i'd say dig out around the rootball at least 1 foot away from the stock and shovel deep, keeping the dirt and rootball intact. but if its budding digging it out now may screw it up because any transplant need time to recover. The bright side there budding, six to eight weeks more or less they will be ready to harvest, (Take A Deep Breath And Don't Panic If They Can Be Seen Just Block Them From View) Good Luck....
