Final Results I forgot to post the final weights. Here they are after being dried, cut from the stems, and cured for two weeks: Pure Power Plant (deformed runt): 15.2 g Pure Power Plant: 18.3 g C99-1 (lighter green, wider leaves): 21.5 g C99-2 (darker green, narrower leaves): 19.8 g Cheese: 17.8 g Warlock: 14.6 g Total: 107.2 g, 3.78 oz.
Final Report I’ve never not finished a grow log, and I have no intention of not starting. Not now, anyway. So here it is, a little late, hopefully better than never. Everything is now in jars, so I’m officially declaring this grow “finished.” Before I get to the smoke report, I will briefly summarize the grow from seed to jar. Plants were grown in a double-wide wardrobe under a single 400-watt bulb. I used a Metal Ace MH bulb for veg, and a Hortilux HPS for flower. I grew in a typical organic soil mixture in 3-gallon grow bags. I used General Organics liquid ferts, and I fed them all pretty heavily throughout. All seeds were germinated in paper towels, then put into unamended soil in 16-oz cups, and finally transplanted into the bags at 14 days. I started with the following seeds: 2 White Label Pure Power Plant (fem) 2 Female Seeds X-Line C99 Hybrid (fem) 1 Dinafem Seeds Cheese freebie (fem) 1 Magus Genetics Warlock freebie (fem) All germinated and sprouted. On day 33, I topped both the C99 as they were growing faster than the others. One of the PPP was a bit small with deformed, discolored leaves, but I let it grow. They vegged for 49 days at about 17/7 before flipping to 12/12. days later I installed the SCROG screen, which eventually filled in reasonably well. All grew VERY WELL during veg, and were all very healthy and very bushy when they were flipped. At harvest, they were all mostly cloudy and just starting to show some amber trichomes. I cured in ziplock bags for about 2.5 weeks, then into jars for a bit more extra-slow curing. Their harvest times and yields were: PPP 1 (59 days): 15.2 g PPP 2 (59 days): 18.3 g C99 1 (58 days): 21.5 g C99 2 (58 days): 19.8 g Cheese (58 days): 17.8 g Warlock (58 days): 14.6 g Total 107.2 g, or 3.78 oz Generally speaking, I was a bit disappointed in the quantity. I made no mistakes and didn’t screw anything up. My setup is as optimized as I can get it. Yet I still didn’t quite make one oz. per plant. Not that I need that much, but it’s the principle of the thing. As it is, I have way more than I need to hold me till the next harvest. So I’m not complaining. But the one thing I did differently from my previous grow, when I got my best yield ever, is that last time I used all new soil, while this time I used about half and half, old soil mixed with new. Even though I added all the amendments as I usually do, I’m starting to think that there’s something about new soil that makes a difference. From now on, it’s all new soil for every grow. Now let’s get to the most important part of this report: the smoke (report). As always, please keep in mind that I really suck at describing flavors and aromas. I guess I just don’t have a very discriminating palette. Cheese was a freebie and turned out to be a pretty decent smoke. It’s the only (mostly) indica from this grow, so it’s a nice change of pace. In the jar, it definitely has a distinctly funky smell. I guess it does smell kind of like cheese. The strong, smelly kind, not American or cheddar. Flavor-wise, not so much. It’s a decent, mostly-body buzz. If I had more seeds, I’d probably grow it again, but I don’t. So I probably won’t. Warlock was another freebie. It too turned out alright. It’s a more sativa buzz, reasonably potent, but less so in the body. It doesn’t really have much smell in the jar, and likewise really doesn’t have much flavor. So although it’s a decent buzz, it’s not all that interesting or unique of a smoke. I have one more of these freebies, so I may grow it again, but not any time soon. Pure Power Plant was a bit of a disappointment. These were purchased seeds that I had high hopes for. Right off the bat, one of the plants was deformed and discolored. It turned out to yield almost as much as the healthy plant, so I guess that’s a moot point. Then during curing, it never seemed to completely get rid of that hay smell. I don’t think I screwed up with the curing, since both PPP plants were the same. And everything else cured just fine. It still doesn’t have much aroma beyond that, even after 6 weeks of curing. Not surprisingly, the smoke has very little flavor. The buzz is OK, a lot like the Warlock, mostly in the head. Not bad, but I think a bit less potent than the Warlock. If I had to summarize my reaction to PPP in one word, it would be “meh.” Although I have more seeds, I don’t plan on growing this strain again in the foreseeable future. Finally, the C99 Hybrid, another strain that I was very excited about. But this time I was NOT disappointed. I was the exact opposite of disappointed. If I had to summarize C99 in one word, it would be “OUTSTANDING!” I was wondering if the two very different looking phenos would be different, but they’re basically indistinguishable. In the jar, the smell is sweet, kind of fruity maybe, very nice. The smoke also has a bit of a sweet flavor, but not as much as something like Kandy Kush. It’s a flavor I really like, although I can’t really describe it. The potency is HIGH! One of the first times I smoked this was with a friend, and after 2 or 3 hits, he said, “What IS this shit?!?!” Without a doubt, this is the most potent sativa I’ve ever smoked. I think it’s not just the potency, but the nature of the buzz. It’s very pleasant, up, awake, and even a bit trippy. In case I haven’t made it clear, I LOVES me some C99! In conclusion, I am pleased with the quality of this harvest, and mildly disappointed with the quantity. Still, it’s more than enough and the best I can do. My conclusion—it’s all good. So, that brings me to the future. I’m currently planning my next grow, after the heat goes away. I’m thinking I’m going to change my strategy, and grow fewer plants but let them veg a bit longer. I plan to grow my favorites from my last few grows, and just grow one of each this time. If I end up with about the same amount, I’ll be happy. My next grow I plan on starting one each of the following: C99, obviously. That will be my potent sativa. Kandy Kush, a very nice all around daytime, nighttime smoke. And Cream Caramel. It’s a sweet-tasting, potent indica that I like a lot. I might grow one more plant, haven’t decided. Maybe a freebie like Shark Attack. It would finish about the same time as the C99. We’ll see. That's all for now. Thanks for sticking around till the bitter end!
This is weird! Just two days ago I was thinking I should post an update to this grow log. Must be some kind of cosmic coincidence that the next day there are new posts in this long-forgotten thread. The reason for my update is that my opinion of the Pure Power Plant has changed. My original smoke report was not quite glowing, and I wanted to be fair. I said initially that the PPP never really lost its "hay" smell and had pretty much no flavor. So I didn't really smoke very much of it. Then about a month ago I was with some friends, and I handed them my jar with various strains in it and asked them to pick something. I wasn't paying attention, and when I took the first hit I was pleasantly surprised. "Wow, this tastes pretty good," I said, not recognizing the flavor. Turns out it was the PPP! I don't know what happened, other than the PPP has continue to cure while in the jar. It now has very little smell, nothing unpleasant, and a really nice flavor. Maybe not at potent as some of the other strains I have, but a nice day time smoke that I quite enjoy. Lesson learned: When in doubt, let it cure a little longer. Thanks for the nice comments!
