I got a 5 foot piece of 6" inch this morning (it was free) capped off both ends and drilled a 5" hole to check the fit of my 5" net pots which fit perfect so i made 3 more holes. this is a trial run with this set up.

my only q is should i have the drain as low as possible or should i have it up about 3/4 or so so that there is allways some nutes in the pipe in case of power failure or what not.

I plan on putting a mister on each side of the roots for each plant, as well as havinig nutes pumped into the slightly raised end to drain through the pipe. I am going to end up making 4-5 of these for the flower room to harvest 4 plants every 2 weeks. 1 resy for each pipe. there was some 8 and 10 inch stuff over there too so i might go wih bigger pipe depending on how these do

go get a few 1/2 inch tub fittings for hydro tabels....the ones that have a screw on collar......drill out the holes (2" hole saw bit) to fit in the center of the caps on BOTH ends, hookup a 1/2 inch line to either end, to drain and one to fill, hookup the pump from the ressy to the feed line, also make a rack that your pipes can sit onto, put a 1/2 inch of "fall" on the rack so that it drains to one end and recirculates back to the ressy and itll just kep pumping back and so on.....if ya want you can throw toether a 1inch line with misters on it as well and slide it into the main pipe

I got it all put together.I made a 1/2" hole in the top of the high end for the inlet hose from resy, then I drilled a hole in the bottom of the low end just big enough for a 1/2" pvc male to fit in, put a 1/2 rubber gasket on the male, stuck it through and tightend a 1/2" electrical conduit nut on it so it's sealed. there should allways be about a 1/2" of circulating nutes in it (thats how high the male sticks up in the pipe) from there its gonna flow through a piece of 1/2" pvc run under the pipe back to the res. the net pots have 18" in between each other and the next pipe will be 18" away so this should be plenty of room to prevent over crowding

    thanks for the response cc

That sounds about right. I have always heard that NFT is one of the harder methods to set up correctly because of water levels and drainage difficulty. Water gets too high and roots rot, but if the net pots stick up too high the roots dry out. On top of that you can have problems with the roots clogging outtakes as they grow, which would cause an overflow.

Sounds like you got it. Only thing I'd suggest (if you haven't done it already) is to put a screen in front of the outtake so there's no chance the roots grow into it halfway through and cause a blockage. No one likes a flooded grow room.

It seems to be working ok, it keeps about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of nutes it. Sir Stinky I put a screen on it:thumbs-up: i got one of four that is not producing any roots yet:wtf?: so I put that one in that end. I have another plant in there that aint doin worth a shit for some reason, even the one with the root issue looks good like the other 2. I brought home a peice of 8 inch pipe the other day I am going to put in there as well. I'm kinda thinking about using some 4 inch I had left-over today in the veg room, instead of the 2x2 flood and drain set up I got now.

Nice gift however after reading the description I think such systems are best left to those with more growing experience than myself. Quite frankly I'd be sunk if weren't for the forgiving nature of organic growing. Perhaps after a year or two of growing in soil I'll be ready for such a high strung system.

By the time I got this/that, I could tell just by talking to him that he wasn't very knowledgable, in general. He said he grew some big plants with a 1000 (which I have hanging right now). Your biggest hurdle, IMO, is keeping your ressy cool enough. I can't achieve that, ATM.

It is a sweet set-up. A mister tube runs the length of the tube.

    Sorry for the HIGHjack.

It's basically the same system as building buckets without the hassle. Alot more cash, but not to me

O.K. I got my computer and internet to get along again, I'll post pics this evening.

If your growing alot of plants to harvest at one time, that setup is the shit! but i'm doing 4 stages of 4 plants so a smaller set is right for me. Not much to update, still only 1/4 inch long roots on the 1 and that other 1 is still dropping leafs:read2:. The other 2 are doing really good though.

[IMG] this one I put in just because it's never had a spot on one leaf.

But there it in all its getto glory, I still have not made it permanant, as this is a trial run. the plant on the far left is doing the best, second to the left i don't what its prob is. the one on the right is the one that refuses to grow roots. these are in week 4

Scotty, I should be by now, but not in my mind. I'm still trying to to get a min of two ounces per plant. and still amazed at how you get a q.p. off 1 plant.

    :thumbsup:Its all good bro!:smokin:
