Skunky, periphery sounds exactly like Meshuggah except you swap out a singer with balls for a man that sings like a teenage emo kid with his jeans too tight....

I like the music some of these types of bands make, but as soon as i hear that whiney singing come on it loses all credibility in my opinion.

    Heres an example.....

This bass line "IS" Meshuggah.... lol

And this song had me, right up till the 0:52 second mark.

To each their own i guess.....

Now swap back in the vocalist with some balls...

Well if you watched or are familiar with all the artist I posted up you would see the common theme is technical guitar riffs. Nothing to do with the vocals. :thumbs-up:

I hear ya, I just like technical weird timed type stuff. Why I like periphery because the guitarist bulb who writes it all is a musical natural and the guy has no clue about music theory or anything. Between the buried and me paul waggoner is methodical and definitely exploits his musical knowledge to write not only some grinding riffs but some beautiful solos like that one in selkies. Here all you guys who didn't watch any of the videos I posted or listened to a small portion, just listen to this solo and tell me this is beautiful. The reason I like the human abstract they've gone through soo many singers but the only thing that made the band was AJ the clasically trained guitarist. He left band went to shit, he came back even with a singer no where as good as their original the band sounded more like it should.

Some technical, burning the masses I can groove to, but brain drill the only thing that really lets me keep listening is the crazy guitar licks.

Oh and one thing I really like about between the buried and me is those guys can play. It's crazy listening to one of their albums and how the use almost every style of music and put it together in a metal song. What was really funny was when rolling stones did a review on one of their albums "Alaska" the editor said that the album was ok but just your typical metal album and that they are good at what they do but hardly musicians that they don't really know how to play their instruments as much as they just grind on them. Well in response to that they made the album the anatomy of in which they did covers with a bit of their own little spin on a diverse set of music. Should check out their very tastefully done cover of us and them.

Skunky, I hear ya on Maynard, he's still got it. Have you seen his documentary "Blood Into Wine"? There he talks a bit about the future of Tool and it didn't sound good, looks like he is focusing all his time and energy on Puscifer and the winery. I've also heard the rumors that there is album in the works, that would be cool, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Tool are assholes, always have been, but damn their music is awesome :not-worthy:

Juggalo, I'm not into hip hop but that was a good tune by Tech Nine :thumbs-up:

So Skunky and Dan are into progressive metal, but do you guys rock Opeth? I liked that Between the Buried and Me song, reminded me of Opeth. Opeth fucking brings it, bad ass guitars and dramatic songs with a hint of doom metal. There's a bit of growling, which I'm usually not a big fan of, but somehow it just fits this band so well.

If you didn't know them already, check them out (not their latest album, it sucks ass). Here's a bad ass tune, gotta have respect for a band that sounds this good live
