Our beloved Macaw Rico Passed away last night. Rico was a Wild Caught Macaw from bolivia who lived quite the life and once flew in the Rainforests. I bought him in Salt lake 28 years ago and he was in his late twentys when we aquired him. He watched my oldest children grow and leave home and the youngest grow who are still at home. He was very loving bird. He was really a character. IN early april he aquired a really bad gram negative infection which took a heavy toll on his liver. He was actually crapping large amounts of blood. He was rushed to the vet which out here if you need a exotic vet your screwed as there are very few avian vets. He had lost his appetite completely and we changed his diet and he was hand fed by me and my wife for two months. He actually was doing really good till the other night. Dureing the night he had a relapse and rupture of his liver and from blood loss fell off his perch dureing the night. I found him on the floor motionless the next morning. We tried to stop his internal bleeding again with drugs but the dammage was too great. He got weaker and we held him through the day saying good bye. He was rushed to the vet last night and had started to have adema because his heart just could not take anymore. I could not bear to have him suffer any more so I had the vet put him down. I actually believed this bird would out live me as some have lived to be 80 years old. I have had a lot of animals die but this one has taken a piece of my heart with him. t6
I knew he wasn't well, but I didn't realize it was to this point. So sorry for your loss, buddy. asssit:
I feel you pain Teamster. I recently had to put my dog down. I had her for 14 years. Pets are very special members of our families. Rico is f the wild again. Probably being chased by my dog!
Aww man. I'm so sorry T6. That's just like loosing a kid. He'll be in bird heaven xD Hang in there man.
28 years is a long time to be friends...sounds like he had a great ride....sorry for your loss.... RIP Rico
That sucks man. no matter what it is when you something in your life 28years you are going to get attached and it's going to be hard losing it. I doubt it would matter even if it were an inanimate object. for your loss and hopefully your heart won't hurt long.
:icon_cry: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss T6. It's always a super rough experience losing a family member. I can't imagine how hard it must be right now coping with the loss and still going about taking care of the ones who remain. :5grouphug: We're all here for you buddy. I too am a HUGE animal lover. I have a ton of animals near and dear to my heart as well. I sympathize with your pain. Again,... I'm very sorry for your loss, I hope your heartache doesn't last too long, but the mourning process is part of the healing process, so take your time coming to terms with it. I wish I was there to give you a hug brother. asssit:
