I have had my last crop drying for 23 days now the stems keep bending not even close to snapping 4 different strains all of them have dried in less then 14 days rain or no rain. anybody have an idea of why this would be happening? is there repercussions to it taking this long to dry?
What stash said . I bought mine at home depot for 50$ it's a Eva dry . I ran it in my room during flowering and during the drying process Works great took about 2 cups of water out of the room everydy
Thank you for the responses. I have a computer fan on top of the dry rack, haven't had rain here but maybe 3 times in the last 3 weeks ambient humidity is around 30-40% in the room. I've never had this problem before nothing has changed except for it getting hotter I can't think of what is doin this...
could it be that your crop was still heavily fertilized when you chopped. I've heard that overfertilized bud doesn't dry properly....just throwing it out there, I have no idea if its true though
Agreed. This, with more air flow/bigger fan/dehumidifier. Still shouldn't take 20+ days to dry, either way. Must've been heavily watered shortly before chop to retain so much moisture.
yeap what CC said. if you are trying to get a good cure, snip the buds off and throw them into brown paper bag. Control the humidity by leaving the bag open or closing it. But snip the buds, that way they can't continually pull water from the stalk. BTW, I usually took the buds off the stem at about the 4-5 mark and brown bagged them. Everything was usually done at the 8-10 mark to start cure. We all live different places and RH has a lot to do with this, but bag that shit and leave the Bag open. You can place a fan close to the bag blowing across the top to help draw out moisture to aide the process. Never blow fan directly on buds though, harsh smoke (well after 23 days ?? don't know how much this well effect it
Thank you all for the responses, 8-10 days is normally good for me as well never been over 15 thats what threw me for a loop. I thought I would get some opinions from other growers before I did something that would mess up the final product. I tried a bud last night and other then a slight chlorophyll taste but other then that its fine.
this is what i do....i hang the fresh cut in the grow room with the new stuff...the heat dries it out in 2 days or so...be wary... It may feel dry and brittle but if that stem dont snap...dont jar em.
I'd rather not dry exposed to growlights or sunlight. I know some really good growers who do it but it just feels wrong to me. We know UV breaks down thc and we know photosynthesis will continue to some degree until the plant finally dies. Both seem like something to be avoided.
I think the poster that put it out there that ferts not being flushed may be a problem. I have Bud taken same time in past that got chopped early b4 a flush. When i finally dried it i still had to do a water cure because of crackling smoke! Water cure its fav method for me for sure.if you place all buds, minus stem, into a pair of tights and tie open end shut. Place into ro water (filtered even) place a plate onto package to weight it down, and leave for a day, drain water off,i simply lift tights out and place on side, refill bucket (or whatever you're using) with fresh water and put tight package back into fresh water.repeat for 5 to 7 days. When done cut tights open and dry buds as usual! This way the buds dry FAST once outta water, maybe 2 days only...3 TOPS! Now ALL ferts are out and were smoking pure ganja. Peace!
I've heard of it but I would rather flush it properly or just taste the harshness of it. It just doesn't sound right. If you have an extra week to soak it in water and then dry some more, why not just flush it for that extra time.
Water cure largely sucks crusty ass. Produces a very smooth bland toke. Imagine taking a cabernet grape and stripping the majority of the tannin's out before fermenting. You'll have smooth Bordeaux with absolutely no character. That's what a water cure for bud is like.
