"I plan on building my own small grow box for the Auto Cheese I have, because I want to do an experiment on the 240W Blackstar. They say one Black Star will keep up with a 600W HPS, just a bit lower in performance. I guess it's not all about lumens, it would be about the proper spectrums and what the plant will actually absorb? Do I have that right?"

In a sense you have it right, but the 240 isn't going to keep up. I told you it took a 330w system to be comparable in production with a 600. Either way, if you don't lower the light, it's not gonna be as dense. I'd say you're closer to your other 400w hps with the 240w blackstar. If you want more performance than that, you have to put the lights closer, and restrict the space the light travels. You only want the light traveling over your auto, if your gonna do it. The lower the lights, the higher the concentration of light.

Also, unless you have the wattage... HID with high lumen output, will out perform the Blackstar. It may be comparible in Photosynthetically active radiation, but lumens are still a very important factor.

    Also, who is they?

Chas, some of these guys are annoyed with you because I already answered your question in another thread, as, I'm sure, have they.

#1: LEDs suck. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.

#2: I already said read the grower's bible cover to cover. The answer to your question about what size light is in there. I'll throw you one more freebie though before I just start posting links to the bible: If you're doing a horizontal grow, a 600w usually covers a 3x3 area and a 1000w usually covers a 4x4 area. Reflectors change how the light is cast - some cover wider areas, some cover narrower ones. The ones that cover wider areas are almost always crappy gimmicks. If you want to grow VERTICALLY, however, your 400w should be good for the 4x4 and is too big for the 3x3.

#3: Cool tubes are the best reflectors ever made IMO. They drop the heat far more than any other reflector setup I've used and can be used vertically as well if you ever decide to switch over to that.

#4: There's a good chance you'll outgrow that 3x3 box. I wouldn't buy the box. If you're spending that much money, you should probably use it on something you plan to use for a very long time. Fortunately you're in luck - You can make your own *cheap* box that is just as effective, though not as pretty, as any store bought box using panda plastic and 2x4s. It's what I did for years.

#5: Do you know how they make autoflower strains? They get them by crossing them with cannabis ruderalis. Cannabis ruderalis plants trade bud quality for growing ease and hardiness (that species is from far northern Asia). I believe when they're found in the wild they have about the same psychoactive compound content as hemp - a few weird genetically mutated plants crossbred a dozen times over is what created psychoactive autoflowers, but even then they still typically have relatively low potency. If you want some hardy, beginner friendly strains that don't sacrifice bud quality, I suggest you look around for that rather than jumping on the autoflower bus. If you want quick growing plants, that's available too with higher quality genetics than autoflowers can offer. The bottom line is that very few growers grow autoflowers indoors for a good reason.

As an aside, the beginner strain I recommend is Nirvana's White Rhino. There are plenty of others out there but that's the one I have had the best experience with.

#6: I understand these guys' frustration. They're trying to help you but you still haven't done your homework. Read the FAQs on this site and the growers bible cover to cover a few times before you ask for advice again, and before you ask for advice use the search function on this forum. Almost everything we've discussed so far in this thread has been covered in other threads many, many times. If you still can't find it after 10 minutes with the search function, then ask. But stuff like "what size light goes in a 3x3 box" really hurts your credibility because I know the answer to that is in the grower's bible and I'm pretty sure it's in our beginners FAQ section on this forum, too.

Believe it or not, we're trying to help. I'll say straightforwardly what they're saying snarkily. Cool your jets, turbo. Your ears aren't open and you're expanding waaaay faster than you're learning. Focus on one thing at a time, and right now focus on technique using the tools you've been pointed to rather than expanding the operation with your credit card. I don't care if it's bought with your profit - you have probably a 60% chance of outgrowing anything you buy within a year just because you don't know enough to know how to upgrade effectively, and even if you do upgrade effectively you're not using your stuff to potential because you're lacking in basic knowledge.

A moderator instigating. Nice staff we have here.

That's why this is a test. To see the outcome of an Auto Flower under just one 240W. I really don't care the outcome, I just want to see if what they (Black Star) say is true. I'm a member over at AFN and I've heard great reviews on the LED I have. 2 years ago LED's blew. Now they are really catching up to HID, still got a ways to go though. The Black Star supposedly has a 2x2 range, so I'll have a 3x3 box with the light very close, it produces very little heat.

Well the first strain I grew in a tent was White Rhino, just the auto flower variaty. The potency is great. Auto Flowers keep getting better and better. So nothing will change my mind on that. As far as asking questions without reading the growers bible, I have very limited time, and most of you already know the answer, that's why I post before I research. I will take out an hour or two tonight to read it cover to cover. Thanks again for you input!

Yeah sorry Chas, I'm with midnight. I'm happy to guide or teach but apparently you're looking for a consultant not a teacher. Teaching involves effort on the part of the student, whereas consultants are paid professionals who sell you the results of their experience and research with minimal effort on your part. I have done plenty of MMJ consulting work for people who were either too lazy or too busy to learn on their own in the past, but I charge $20 an hour and I only do it in person.

I do have a friend who works as a grow consultant over video chat. He's that experienced dispensary grower I mentioned earlier in this thread. I believe he charges somewhere between $30-$50 an hour, but he can handle all your problems in a timely and efficient manner. Let me know if you need his number.

    Best of luck to you.

K, about to figure out what I need for the new systems, and I'm not exactly sure which systems to choose. I haven't been in the game long enough to know good brands of lights and ones to stay away from. I know what I need for the spaces I'm using (Growers Bible ;) ). I just need some suggestions on the lights and tents to get.

    - 95% have my mind made up on my 4x4 tent. Air-cooled 1K HPS. Am I going to run into heat issues?

    - 15% sure on the 2nd tent. 1 x 600W vertically, or 2 x 400W horizontal. Take into consideration I already have a digital 400W HPS kit made from iPower. If I use my current 400W HPS, I will be replacing the bulb with something nicer, I've seen some 400W lights that say they put out 60k-65k lumens.

    - 100% Sure I will use my 440 CFM for my 4x4 with most likely a Phresh filter rater for like 550 CFM.

-40% Sure of using my 4" 200 CFM Carbon filter/fan. (It was used for 1 1/2 grows. A new bulb should fix that.)
