I'm fixing to pull the trigger on a CO2 gen., but don't know whether to go with Propane or Natural Gas. Propane seems so much easier to set up, but tanks will need to be refilled. The wife is kinda iffy about me tapping into the gas line in the house. Anybody run a CO2 gen. out there? How hot do they get? Any DIYer's want to tell me the safest way to run gas?Admin lynching
Mine doesn't get hot I have it in the corner of my room. I used ng and taped into my water heaters line. Made sure it was done right though..
Listen to Stash. Get it done right. we just had a guy in town blow his garage up and nearly burn his house down trying to make bho. Gas is not your friend.
I had the same discussion a few months ago. opted against the co2 but we decided when we do add it, it will be propane just because of ease of use. You can refill propane at any gas station, hardware, and a lot of grocery stores. I think it cost a lot more to run propane, but safety is right up there with security.
I'm leaning towards propane as well. OK so Stash, when you say that you made sure it was done right, what exactly is done right..I've never played with gas before so I need someone to throw me a bone here..
I ran one with liquid CO2 tanks. Got them refilled at the local welding supply station. I think that's probably the safest option since they usually swap out tanks and keep them regularly tested... only problems you can get with that are getting an antisiphon tank (pipes up liquid CO2 instead of gas) or having a faulty regulator. I had a friend who ran propane CO2 in his garage and it seemed to work just fine. You could probably run indoors too if you vented the room on a timer and made sure to keep cinder blocks under the hot bits. As for how hot it gets I think that depends on the model and how long you run it... one buddy had a super old propane setup and it got really hot, another has a water cooled propane tank and it's always at room temperature. I believe liquid is most expensive by far, propane is second, natural gas is third. Another option if you want to go for 100% safety is organic CO2 boosters - I've used mushroom grow bags (I believe the brand name was Exhale or some such) and I preferred them over the CO2 tank. I also had a buddy that made a lot of moonshine and he fermented his stuff inside the grow room so all of the CO2 bleeding off filled the room. That method takes more work and requires making a heck of a lot of moonshine though. Soooo... yeah. I'd highly recommend organic CO2 injection for smaller operations. Mushroom grows are the easiest method and you get some food out of it too - doesn't end up costing anything if you DIY instead of buying the non-fruiting premade varieties. Larger operations or spaces don't really work so well with organic methods, but it's perfect for a closet or grow box. Hope that helps!
Yea there's a gas line for the water heater in the attic that i can tap into. Wifey really isn't thrilled with the idea though. SirStynk, I have moved out of the closet and now am in a room..I doubt organic CO2 is the way to go.
thread it in and put some flex on the end of a valve...it's easy just make sure you do a good job and check for leaks..
What kind of burners are easiest and cheapest? The ones I've seen for sale online look like furnaces and start at $350 a piece.
Wow. I've been out of it a while. My bad. I've still seen some designs for like full greenhouses using organic CO2 boosting but yeah less practical. I'd just swallow the pain and get something you have to refill. It's always good to keep the woman on your side, plus on the very off chance something goes wrong there's less potential damage if you're using liquid co2 than some fuel source, and less risk of something going wrong with fuel if you use a propane tank with everything set up than if you're doing your first DIY project with a gas line.
