would using window unit a/c's mounted in the wall bring enough co2 for a 10x7x8 flower room? my veg room is 10x5x8 with seperate a/c. and what are the signs of of co2 def? all the plants seem to be doing just as well as before i reconstructed my set up(aside from the crazy temp swings i used to have to deal with) I know at some point i'm gonna have to get the co2 set up, but with the window units it's not really completly sealed yet.
If you are really that worried about CO2 I'd look into some co2 injectors for your grow room. But I wouldn't sweat it too much. I've never heard of a plant that was co2 deficient. If its green, then it's happy. You may also consider using a fungi bucket type co2 injection system. Never used it myself but I've heard they work ok (kinda pricey tho). And as far as how much co2 your Gunna pump into your room via ac it all depends on how much air your ac can move but like I said I wouldn't worry about co2 levels too much. Shit grows outside all the time w out any additional co2 so you should be ok too.
If ya got a setting to bring outside air in on the ac ide put it on but either way I wouldn't worry about it either, window units aren't sealed units.
A lot of window unit also have a "vent" feature which is usually a little plastic handle you can pull/push in and out allowing fresh air into the mix. They're pretty small but might help out.
man, i just lost the window unit for my veg room yesterday:BangHead:. i gotta stop using the 1000 till i can replace it, i'm using a 400w halide instead to help keep the temps in check. i've thought about finding a small central ac/heat unit, like for a real small house. i think that might be cheaper on the light bill than 2 window units
How large of a space square footage wise? The smallest residential hvac system is a 1.5 ton system. It'll cool a 600-900 square foot room. Depending on how big your room is with the 400w MH that still might be to much cooling capacity. It will short cycle the system not allowing it to remove humidity and it usually causes mold growth in ductwork and in the space. That could maybe be compensated with a thermostat that has a dehumidification control. Honeywell sells a version I don't know their exact part # but its the same one we use from trane and that # is a tcont803. Could go mini split as well, that would probably be better for a grow room as it is ductless and mounts on a wall. Very easy to install, and they come factory charged for the Lineset length required for unit. Lines come pre flared, just need a vacuum pump and gauges really. Hope that's helpful.
Or maybe your system isnt the most efficent it can be , and if you fixed that maybe your temps would be in check? no reason for needing a/c then. I used to have the same problem , then i manned up and bought (in my opnion) the best fan ever made a 8" can fan HO. and now i have issue with my room running to cool. It can be 72 in my home the room will only be 74-75. Ive had to use a heater in the winters months so far to keep them up. and thats 2k watts in a 8x4 tent
BJE i'll have to check into that mini split system. i got 120'sq, its a 10x12. split 5 foot (veg) and 7 foot (flower). S E, it's out in the barn. it gets too hot in the summer for just pulling fresh air through to cool the rooms, tried that a couple years ago. it works better in the summer than in the winter, 28 degrees outside, no insulation or heater,:danger: even running the lights at night had devestating effects. right now the temps have been in the 70's out and it was in the 80's in there with the 1000 going. so i got a couple weeks to come up with another unit.
I'd go with a mini split heat pump. Cover you in winter as well. Depending on the separating wall you can put a transfer grille in, they make automatic dampers you could wire into your timer that will close when it goes dark in the flower room. In fact headed to Dallas to go look at a damper motor now, stupid on call.
IMO mini splits are the best option if you plan on running co2 and in the winter the co2 generator will help with the heat.
well, a buddy said he's got a almost new small window unit i can have for an 1/8th, so thats the shit :coool:.man central units are expensive! hell i reckon if you've got a gas furnace that would put plenty of co2 in there. yeah BJE i'm a service plumber so i know all about the on call b.sAdmin lynching, i'm about to switch jobs to get away from it
I hear ya, right now it really sucks cause we are down to just two techs so it's every other weekend on call. Supposedly doing some hiring and promoting so it should get better. Can't complain though, got plenty of hours through the winter. Awesome about the new ac unit. Good friends are hard to come by.
