For a lighter color finished product, lower your initial purge temperature. 120-130F is too high. Try the 95-105F range. What kind of return did you get?
I haven't put it on a scale yet but ill let ya know. My initial heat purge I do at 110 or so, once all activity has stopped that's when I crank up the heat. I find any batch with the AK in it is usually darker, even while still a liquid. I prefer wax remember.so 130 is the absolute max ill go. I have a video on here where I achieved almost white wax.
This stuff is about a week old. Moisture levels are low I would say. Theyve been hanging since then getting trimmed into a try drying in the open air.
What's the general concessious on how many cans of tane to run through the tube? I've got a mag light tube loaded up with about a zip of bud that I'm going to run this evening & if I can get by with two cans in stead of my usual 3 I'd like to. Cheers Duc
I run two cans through a mag light tube. One time I ran a third can after collecting the oil from the first two, to see if I got anything. After the tane from can 3 boiled off, there was so little oil it's almost safe to say I got none. From this experiment I conclude that two cans gets it all.
I never though about a mag light since they are anodized. Doesn't commercial butane contain NaOH? I know that it strips anno pigment...
no problems here. The inside of my tubes look silver, like bare aluminum. I don't know if there is a coating on there or not, but I can tell you the outside (black) doesn't rub off despite repeated butane soakings and handlings. From my observations I would have to say that butane does not appear to dissolve whatever paint they use on the outside of the mag light
It's not paint. It's anodized. a chemical process to make aluminum durable. The insides are clear anno for durability. The outsides are pigmented.. IDK if that's something to consider or not. But, from a machinist POV..
I'll post a picture of the inside of mine later. Not that it matters buy mine is anodized red & after at least 10 runs there's no sign of any lightening at all. Whether or not that indicates that's not chemically breaking down I have no idea. I do know that the inside of the tube is coated with MJ residue . FF is the inside of your tube coated with MJ residue too? thanks for giving me something else to worry about though. :jj:
:roffl: coated I spent some time research anodized aluminum last night. From what I can see, the process changes the molecular structure at the surface of the metal, but in MOST applications it leaves no chemicals that are dissolved by butane. I used to be very leery of any plastics in my BHO equipment, but I note liquid butane can't dissolve the little plastic nipple it squirts through. Also I've smoked a ton of BHO made in my mag lite. If I'm picking up chemicals in my runs from the anodized nature of the inside of the tube, they are tasteless with no effect
