I'm growing aeroponically. I followed all the measurements given by General Hydroponics' Flora product line, but having some toxicity problems ... I think. Any help would be awesome. Please see pics.!

Looks like some (multiple) kinds of lockout at first glance, with the sativa doing the exact opposite of the indica. I'd check my water..

whats your ph and have you tried just using lucas?

it's just 8ml of floranova bloom per gallon

  4. SirStynkalot

how much light do you have? And what's your ph?

Looks like a phosphorous and possibly calcium issue. multiple lockouts usually means some problem other than feeding schedule.

A number of things could be causing your problems. Just from the look Cal/Mag issues possibly and PH mabe also.

So if you could get us some more info, that would be great.

Like the PH of your nutes after mixing, and temps when lights are on would help out a lot.:redbong:

    And welcome to GK. :-welcome-:

At a second glance, I'm wondering where on the plant these leaves were cut from?

Oh yeah, and what they said. :coolbounce:

    Lock Out

Psycho D, thank you for the reply. I should have known to check my Ph first, but thought it unnecessary b/c I checked it 2 days ago. My ph was 6.4 so I just lowered it to 5.7. Hope this works.

Now I'm wondering if I should check it daily.

    Ph and Lucas

Thanks for the reply. My ph was 6.4; now it's 5.7. I suppose I'll need to check my ph daily. This is my first aero-grow so the learning curve is more like a 45 degree angle.

    Nutrients and Light

Thanks for the reply. P and Ca? I put new nutrients in the resevoir 5 days ago; do you think I need to check the ppm?

I just checked my ph and it was way too high--6.4--so I lowrred it to 5.7. I'll give it a few days and see if the "girls" bounce back. How often should I check my ph when using an aeroponics system?

    Ph, Cal/Mag, Temp, and Light

Thanks for the reply. My ph was 6.4; water temp 84 degrees fahrenheit, and I am using one 400 watt hps bulb.

I lowered my ph from 6.4 to 5.7 so I'm thinking I'm having a serious lockout issue. How often should I check the ph in an aeroponics system?

And, do you think my resevoir water/nutes being at 84 degrees fahrenheit could be locking out some nutrients? What do you suggest I do to lower the temp?

5.7 is ideal but 6.4 isn't that bad. The temps might be the bigger problem. I freeze soda bottles of water and place them in the res when things get too warm. And sometimes the manufacturer's suggested amounts are pretty high so maybe try nippie's suggestion with the 'lucas' regiment. Or maybe check around the site here and try the 'useless' formula, it has worked well for me and others. GOOD LUCK!!!

Check it daily for the next few days and see what it does. You need to dial in your initial nutes probably.

Like When I make up a 20 gallon vat I use lucas (orig GH with tap) and its simply

    15 mls PH Down

    320 GH Bloom

    160 GH Micro

If I test my water in the first hour or so it's around 5.3-5.5. But after a day or so running it's sitting 5.8-6.0 and holds steady for the week.

Chasing the PH monster sucks, it usually rises a bit during the week so try shooting for 5.5 in the initial mix (after you add your nutes!!!)

That's way hot for a ressy also, you are asking for bacteria growth. If it's not light proof you have a recipe for slime. You may want to think about adding good bacteria to try and fight off the bad....or frozen water bottles, those can help but you will be changing them like 4 times a day.

If you continue to have issues I would suggest just look at lucas for flora (just 8 mls of bloom) but some people do complain about the particle size of floranova. A good rule of thumb also is never trust whats on the package, many company's formulas provided on the back of the bottle are way hot and can cause nute burn

The leaves were taken from the lower and upper petioles. The plant is stoll a bany, about 12 days old.

I originally thought it was a toxicity problem since the tips turned dark green.

Thank you for chiming in CG. I was thinking about the soda bottle idea, but was hesitant as I was worried about lowering the temp too much. I'll give it a try though, and see if it helps.

When Nippie suggested the Lucas Method I didn't know what he was referring to so I looked it up. From what I can gather, it is using 8 ml of Flora Micro per 1 gallon of water and 16 ml of Flora Bloom per 1 gallon of water, and not using the Flora Grow since there is enough Nitrogen in the Flora Micro to eliminate the need to use Flora Grow.

I'm glad I joined this site; there is some "top shelf" 411.

Thanks Nippie! I'm definitely going to drain my resevoir water and implement the Lucas Method and drop some frozen bottles in it.

I know time is valuable so thank you all for the information and replies.

Lucas Formula using General Hydroponics FloraNova series

This is probably the easiest (but not cheapest - see MaxiBloom above) feeding plan available. If you're using General Hydroponics' FloraNova Bloom 1-part system, simply add 8ml of FloraNova per gallon of water* and feed.

    ....................

it may be your easiest way of handling the problem, over feeding is just as bad if not worse than underfeeding

water bottles will NOT lower it to much unless they are touching roots. You will find that the water melts in a matter of an hour or so so you will need to change them often if this is you method

    :pimp:

Well, I'd always recommend checking ph and ppm daily or as close as you can reasonably get in Aeroponics. It'll tell you what your roots are doing. Ph down ppm up too high on nutrients. Ph up ppm down too low on nutes. Both up or both down means something else is alive in there.

High ph would partially explain what we saw there. High ph locks out phosphorous and calcium among other things. It still seems like pretty dramatic damage for the conditions shown though. Temps are probably a good guess too.

I'd recommend against putting ice in the reservoir to drop the temps. Temps are a HUGE issue for aero and fluctuations are as bad for the roots as constantly high temps. Put reflective stuff on it, move it out of the room and pipe it in or buy a chiller. Whatever you can do to drop the temperature by a stable, consistent amount. Ice blocks just fry the roots. I'm sure they're already toasted this time around judging by the leaves so it might be hard for you to really see the damage it causes if you try it but if you don't believe me try it next run when the roots are a bit fresher and see what happens. One of the biggest keys to good growing is consistency, consistency, consistency.

Next, did I hear correctly, that you're considering using floranova in an aero setup? Sweet baby jesus please no. Its a soil only fertilizer for a reason. It precipitates inside a day. Stick to the 3 part and I personally don't care for the Lucas formula. I think Useless's formula is better but I dilute it a bit more than he does. Just because the plants can adjust to high nute levels doesn't mean they need it. Just tossing money down the drain. Knew one guy who finished flowering in his aero systems at 3,000+ ppm with canna nutes.

Last, I learned to grow with DWC and Aeroponics systems rather than soil. I would strongly recommend against it if it's possible to switch after this crop. The learning curve's more like a cliff for the first two years. Be easier to learn the basics on soil, soilless drip, or possibly ebb and flow (even plain old enf adds some new hydro specific variables). That being said I love and respect the journey and hope you stick with it or eventually come back around to being a hydro head. I think it teaches you a lot more about the plant a lot faster. Cheers!
