I've seen a couple videos and read a few sites where some people suggest putting your plants at harvest into a dark area for 3 day before trimming. Supposed to increase the thrics, they are saying, just wondering if anyone here has tried it with any success. Be Cool, CG
I've heard rumors but don't know anyone who has tried it... I've heard of using UVA & UVB bulbs to increase trichs
I've tried it, didn't do much of anything. Honestly I still do it, but not for the trichs, supposedly sugars to help make chlor are stored in the roots and base of the plant so there's less to worry about during curing, if that makes sense. The only use them when the lights on so chopping in the dark is what I do. Sometimes I even wear a mask so they don't know its me...but seriously I think this has more to do with chlor than trichs
Sounds like BS to me. How would you reliably tell if a few days increased trichs? Look through a loupe and count?
You want to increase trich lower humidity and temps. Add uvb lighting. I have been running the hortilux grow under mh without glass to incrase uvb but frankly im not sure if its worth the risk. I would say there is some validity in this increasing trichs but also theres a risk of my bulb busting and taking out a crop
I believe I heard dj Short saying he does it to let the plant start breaking down the undesirables on it's own before you cut it. I wanted to try it but I run multiple tables in different stages
:bs: Been there done that. Like Nip said, at best it reduces stored nutrients and carbs. At worst, costs you a little bit of weight. Does nothing for potency or bag appeal.
Yeah, my impression was hype. The people who "said" it was a wise move really didn't sound wise to the process. Since I got my drying nets I don't use the closet anymore to dry. Sometimes I'll have plants ready to come out of the flower rooms and won't have time to trim for a day or two. Just thought I'd put them in the dark closet until I got time to trim them if there was any advantage to it. Thanks for the feedback guys!! Be Cool, CG
I think you get the same effect if you chop before you lights come on. Just snip the plant at its base while still dark
Yeah, I 'try' to give them several hours of dark and cut them just before lights come on. But sometimes I've got a lot of other shit going on and the opportunity and time are big factors too. But I think I'll keep them in the dark closet until I get the time to trim just for good measure. Just hope I don't forget about them for a couple weeks 'cause I'm bad about forgetting shit :jj:. Hell, I found 3 oz's in a kitchen cabinet the other day and 'could not' remember putting them there. But it didn't surprise me either. Be Cool, CG
What does light do to the plants after you chop them? I've always labored under the impression that light (sunlight or otherwise) is bad for curing bud. Once you chop, light becomes another source of degradation - a catalyst of decomposition. But I am not sure why I think this.
Light and heat during the drying process causes tight buds to loosen up a little. I've noticed it more with heat than light. But in my experience that's what I've found
I've tried it. Not that big o' deal or worth it. I will say though, knock the corners off the fan leaves first if attempted. Otherwise trimming is a bitch.
I'll leave the plants in the growing containers (soil) to go into the dark till I get around to chopping them down and trimming. Of course the hydro won't be, they'll be trimmed when cut. I always dry in the dark, that's why I set up that one closet to dry in. Now that I have one of the hanging drying nets, which is bigger than the closet I used, it hangs in a walk-in closet that's still dark. It's amazing how much faster the buds dry in that net compared to hanging the branches on wires in the small closet. That net, like the bud trimmer and CO2 controlers, is something I wished I'd bought much sooner. Be Cool, CG
FF- You're correct. Light=bad for drying and curing plants. It degrades potency. It's good for oxidizing chlorophyll....but bad for retaining the highest possible potency of the product. There's a ton-o-shit that's been covered by knowledgeable folks on this topic.
