A sad reality is that those US citizens with current power will do everything possible to remain in power. They will lie, cheat, steal, and bribe anyone necessary to avoid going down with the rest of 'US'.

In the event of an invasion, it is the rich that will try to hold onto their estates with the assets they hold. I believe that those that know how to survive in the wild will live through a national invasion; not to mention surviving nuclear winters, post-earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.

Learn how to live on the land ASAP, especially if you are a US citizen.

This is true SD...all they need to do is starve us out though. As it stands we are heavily dependant on food being shipped to us. Simply control the supply and wait...starving people will do almost anything including surrender. There are many militias yes, but how would one go about finding them once the **** gets thick? And how would you even expect to travel there to join their ranks? Many things to consider here. It's good on paper, but how will it play out if the need arrises? That's all I'm saying. I would most likely go down in a blaze of glory myself then not have to worry much about it from there on. :smoke2:

If such events take place(and they very easily could)They will Herb. By restricting our food supply they'll attempt to bring us to our knees, they'll also cut our power supply and do everything in THEIR power to strangle our fresh water supply.

They have no choice. In order to successfully invade and conquer a country the size of the United States they must bring the overwhelming civilian population to its knees there is no other way unless of course theyre prepared to fight a 25 year war on foreign soil. And that also leaves the possibility of neutron bombs which china is rumoured to have stock piled making the idea of fighting a war against civilians nearly non-existent.

Thats why, like Indi said and Ive said many times before, it is extremely important for us to become as self sufficient as possible. When a group of people become self sufficient then and only then can they successfully rebel against their government or resist an invading army. Its the only way.

We as united States citizens should always be prepared for such things. These are very real scenarios we're speaking of and not impossible by any means. If a person believes they are, theyre only fooling themselves.

Like putting a suitcase in your closet filled with food and materials to survive on for 2-3 weeks(Tibs suggestion, one we'll be implementing real soon here) we also must be prepared for the things we're speaking of because like a 5 meter psunami wiping out 100s of thousands of people, or a valcano thought to be inactive....erupting. The United States could very easily be made a target by not just one but many countries for invasion. preparing ourselves as citizens for such events is just as important as putting blankets, fresh water, rations, flares and matches in our pick up trucks IMHO.

I believe those who will suffer the most in a situation like this are those whose belief system centers around what they believe to be "the impossible", a very dangerous mindset to have. These types of people dont believe a meteor could strike the earth at any given time, or that a psunami could devestate mutiple countries in seconds or the twin towers could be leveled in an afternoon by terrorist events. These are the people who are going to suffer the most in a situation such as this, fear prevents them from wanting to believe in very real possibilities. They dont want to believe it so they act like it doesnt exist. Those of us who are 'prepared' will be the only thing keeping the resistance going.

IMHO its important to discuss things like this because theyre very real possibilities.

That I can agree with. ;) I'm doing that very thing myself. Becoming less dependant on others for my needs each and every day. I'll admit I am still far from it, but I have the means to go higher up into the mountains here and survive off the land for quite some time if need be. Having a plan is the good start. :ebert:

Good post Herb. Having a plan is definiately a good place to start. We are mere 1.5 hours from the mountains and have a relatively good idea of where we can go in order to survive(multiple locations).

We like you are trying to become more self sufficient and also have a ways to go. There are quite a few products on the market Im saving up for. One of them being a portable water filter thats capable of cleaning stream and river water, would also like to pick up a small water distiller. we have the means to hunt, a knowledge of survivalist techniques and the ability to grow our own food. Generators and portable kerosene heaters cant hurt either. We have plenty of camping gear.

The thing about all the objects mentioned above is not only are they good for assisting in survival during an invasion...These are things people should have in place anyway in case of natural or man made disaster.

I suggest a food storage. Canning and growing your own garden is the chapest way to start. butt you don't need a garden and a canner to start. Also a 50 gallon drum of water is good also. Lots of companies on the internet sell food storage and storage containers for all of your needs.

Having a garden and canning the goods is something my g-ma has done all her life. I learned to do it long ago, but I need to get my garden up and running this spring first. G-ma knew what it was like to go thru the depression before we had the convenience of supermarkets. You grew the food you ate and raised the animals you butchered yourself. I say we all rally at HiC's place. I'll bring a few more guns to the arsenal and I'm a damn fine marksman too...

The mountains will be too full of people. And the starving will kill you for your garden. We're all doomed.

We don't live in the mountains, but we do live in the woods. We got everything we need on hand and ready. recently bought a kerosene heater. I do wish we had a generator though.

You got it HIc name your brand and gauge:wink:

The idea a country could never fall like every other great civilized nation has throughout history...is foolish. And to believe it wont happen in your lifetime thus neglecting to be prepared is the same mistake millions of others made throughout history in turn starving to death while being displaced or being tortured and murdered by the foreign army...have fun:roll:

So to that I say...and I'm sure Herbster would agree...

              People Get Ready!...

Just prepare to the best of your ability...and then if you have done that...you will find that all those jars for canning...don't necessarily contain preserves...well ok maybe they contain preserves...but not the type you were thinkin'...them thar jars are full of bud...yes sticky, tasty, c'mon git yerself sum...bud...so I was prepared after all...now where did I sit those crackers...PC
