It has been 10 days since I took cuttings from my mother plant. Other than roots and new growth, what are some common signs that it's rooting? Obvisiouly it's working or it would be dead. There are a few leaves that have a tinge of yellow. That happened with in the last few days. What is a "safe window" of time to treat it like a vegging plant? How long after I take the cutting should I wait if I don't have an option to view the roots?
If you don't see roots, it won't grow. Plants need roots to grow. Way back when I was learning to clone I found out that a cutting can stay green for AT LEAST a month without growing any roots, so the fact that your clones haven't rooted yet doesn't mean that they are just because they're green. You might try giving them a tiny upward tug.
grow420 Rangers on to something there. About 5 or 6 days after cloning I give mine a quick pull...If I feel resistance and my rootcube lifts up, I can be sure its rooted. Indigo has a nice thread about cloning in pure water....that way you can see when they exactly root! Check it out
I've had cuttings stay alive for a month before developing roots, and they started to yellow just before. If the yellowing starts turning brown, you are out to lunch. If they just continue to yellow there is still hope. The cutting is now beginning to canniblize itself. This should spark the production of roots. Mean while, check the temperature of the rooting medium and the R/H. If their feet are too cool, all processes are slowed. If their atmosphere is too Humid, the cuttings are not encouraged to seek ground moisture. I prefer the layering technique myself. earth girl is 'rooting' for your success
EG-- re: high humidity is bad for clones. I've always had muc better success with clones under a dome, and my friend uses a fogger and he gets his clones to strike the cubes in as little as 7 days.
Heyrangerdangerdear All I ever grew in a high humidity dome were molds and fungi(why the girl shroom liked the boy shroom? He was such a fun guy!). Just as I was starting to get tangible results(over 50% survival), I found airlayering, and never looked back. Like I always say, "my experiences, opinions, understanding, all open to interpretation and analysis." I seemed to me when a clone had lingered in the tent(3wks+), a dryer climate did the trick. I was in the process of ditching the tent completely when I was given the gift of internet access. Glorious! Incredible! Addictive! egis an old dog learning new tricks
I will give them a quick check like that, and I will post a reply telling the results. I think that they will be fine. My temp is good. Small space+lights=76 Degrees constant. Is that sufficient? Earthgirl I appreciate the reply as well as ranger. All information helps in the smallest sense, and yet makes the biggest difference. Later
I'm with EG on this one. I always have better results with lower humidty. To me the more moisture a clone has the less incentive it has to root. But as with anything different results for different growers.growanywhere420, are you cloning in rockwool cubes? When i did rockwool i just waited till i saw roots coming out of the cube.
