I am looking to down size my operation from a 400 watt flower room to around 70- 150 watts, power is just outrageously expensive in my region :icon_confused: . I have 2 large revegged Oaxaca indica's in a 5 gallon pot that i jogged originally (they are still growing in that fashion as i never unbound them). They are about 2 feet tall now and very bushy. Now heres my question, can i use that 70 watt HPS security light to bud them if i train them into a 2ft X 2ft area with the light on the canopy? I would be also using some CFL vertically on the side as i vegged under them up to this point. Would i get good results?, or should i just stick them outside on June 1st? I know i would be getting at least 27,000 lux on my canopy if i train them into that 2ft X 2ft area. Any opinions ideas anyone?? any would be appreciated as I HATE EXPENSIVE power, including the risk for something small like 2 plants. :punk:

70 wattHPS is practically nothing, bro.

you will be very disappointed stepping down from a 400. personally, I think you would be better to go with a strong CFL.

also, I know the Oaxacan region VERY VERY well, and can tell you with a great deal of certainty that there are no native indicas anywhere near here.

where did you acquire this strain???

Thats a good question! this guy from Vermont brought clones down from his brother (i live south of Vermont) and said it was Oaxacan indica, but i think he ment to say it was Oaxcan X indica or vise versa. Whoops I sounded like a dumb ass there :rolleyes2: . all i know it is a NICE strain with both indica and sativa traits, i have been growing it for 2 years now but i feel i need some new genetics, something white blue or even purple. anyone know of a place to get a cheap larger wattage CFl???? i guess maybe the 70 watt HPS wont do..... still thinking about it tho as funding may be an issue for my equipment gathering, have to focus more on paying for the energy.

I grow hydro so for me it's not just the 400W HPS. I have to figure in 2 sub. pumps, 2 air pumps, exaust fan, 6 CFLs and three osc. fans. The first elec. bill I got freaked me out but after changing all the bulbs in my house to cfls, turning my computer off instead of standby, turning the T.V. off if I'm not really watching it. When all said and done, I'm only about $35.00 a month more now than I was before I started growing. There are many ways to save cash on the power you use and in the long run you will miss that 400W light. Just my opinion though.

look online for t-5 flouro's. they come in sets of five or so with a reflector, or you can buy single, "light bars," in 2' or 4', and buy a small reflector for them.

they are what i use for my veg. room, and they kick ass! they are the only flourescent light ive ever heard of for greenhouse purposes.

I bought that 70 watt HPS light and mickey moused it to my 400 watt ballast case. works pretty decent for my purpose at the moment. i also used the reflector but i had to drill some holes and find some hardware. I also added some flouros on the sides, i am gonna pick up more when i can. I will post some pics in a bit once i take them.

I have a 70w HPS light like the one you posted, for being my first grow, I say it was badass, the yeild was great, I had two plants in for flowering, one plante the yeild was so great, the buds had to be supported with sticks. I would rather get a 400w HPS, but I had great results with the 70w HPS.

ok i have a pic of that 70watt HPS i fitted into my 400 watt reflector and ballast case. the thing is tiny compared to a 400watt ballast :rolleyes2: but i think this will do for my last indoor crop in this location... have to move soon, hopefully i can use the 400 watt light again but i might just buy a digital ballast system when i move.

I see your plants but I don't see the 70W light your talking about. Can you really use a 400W ballast with a 70W bulb?? Maybe I'm reading your post wrong? Those plants look real healthy but I don't think that low watt bulb is going to penetrate your canopy. Keep us informed how they do.

    yeah, man.....

I've seen those 70watt HPS and you can barely even tell they are running...no way you are going to cover more than a small area of a single plant with thAT
