A few questions to get started on the road to making gooood hash.

I want to make some hash, who doesn't?

Should I use my leaves or my bud?

What is a easy quick way, something like disolving the triches with alcohol?

Or is it worth my time to do something more complex like bubble bags ?

 

I can't tell you from experience but I can tell you what I plan to do with mine in just a couple weeks.


I want an easy way and I have very little money to spend. So I am settling on the ISO alcohol method (100% if I can find it, either that or everclear, again, if i can find it). Go look in Advanced Cultivation, there is a thread there called "simple hash oil method - does it work?". There was a nice discussion.


If you want higher quality and have some money to spend maybe get one of those boxes and first scrape to get really high quality and then use the leftover plant material in alcohol to get all the THC you can (or maybe not...kinda depends on how much you want to squeeze out of your girls with less regard to taste/potency).


I am saving my buds for smoking and use the abundance of leaves/trim I will have. But of course, of you have the buds to spend.....go with them!

Buds will always yield more product than trim. Make sure the buds are broken up well (not ground) the more leaf surface area exposed the more product you will yield.


As far as the easiest method it just depends on what "kind" of product you want kief,hash, or oil. Choose one of those and i could explain my experience with the easiest method.


here's a start


If you want kief and want very little physical labor then a tumbler would be best....that's basically like auto pilot.


Hash pretty much the same as kief however bubble bags or cold water extraction in general will yield slightly more due to the fact that water helps in the removal. Bags however are labor intensive.


Oil, butane will yield the best oil but is more expensive for the initial setup. Iso would be the easiest. Hexane is another good clean solvent but harder to obtain


Those are by no means the standard, just what i have found in over a decade of xtracting

 

I have only used the method that Herb taught me. I use a sifting screen to sift/squeeze/push the product through the screen so the kief comes through. I do that a cupl times and use the kief on joints or in a bowl. Seems like maybe the tumbler would be the way to go.


Does the tumbler allow for more yield from the same product when compared to the method I mentioned above?

Flat screening is an excellant way but yes a tumbler can be more effective. You could achieve the same with a flat screen but it would have to have a large surface area and be enclosed


We also put rubber balls in the tumbler drum to add effectiveness.

 

hehe i have found the most time conserving and easy's without allot of hassel's is shifting it threw a screen~and the most $$$ saving it seem's.But i have never made oil cept with achoul in the a jar teq but maybe someday ill look into it...i got an awesome grinder i got at a local head shop for 30 that catches kief as the bud is being grinded (unscrews grinder) and it seems there is a decent amount seems i might be having a mindblowing experince tonight

 

I made a box out of 1"x1" and covered the bottom with the screen. I place a piece of cut aluminum over the top and I have 9"x11" cake pan that attaches to the bottom and collects the kief.


it's a hell of a contraption to look at I tell ya

I just got mine in and it's awesome. Well crafted and will definitely help me save up some ingredients for my first hash experience.

 

I like to collect and smoke dry sieve, it's easy for me to collect and turn into little hand pressed blocks with little or no effort, save for a little heat added as a result of the body heat at my hands. I also like to make 2 minute quick wash ISO, but the dry sieve is the easiest for my situation. I will soon be embarking on my very first BHO extraction adventure, I've got a lot of trim and popcorn to extract from, so I think the BHO will be awesome once it's been properly purged and buddered up Paz y mas...

I have done the ISO and tons of Keifing with tumblers and sceens. I prefer to use nice clean butane to get some kick ass oil.


Lets talk Honey and Cherry oil....

I wish I could go further Wawona. I have made the ISO "hash" BTW u can use I think its 91% that you can get at any Walmart. That kinda sucks.


I used cold water extraction and tumbling then pressing, thats better.


I Like to use a big PVC pipe filled with leaf. Butane in one end, oil out the other.


Then I looked quickly into turning that into honey oil and that is still a bit confusing to me, then I looked into cherry oil and that is total greek.

Ohhhhh nooooo not PVC. Just so ya know Solo, pvc is not very compatable with butane.....it's a plastic. You may not have noticed it but butane being a solvent can leach out chemicals of PVC which aren't exactly healthy to us. I would stick with stainless, glass, or if you have to- copper.If you use copper just be sure to clean it between runs as it oxidizes. Not sure what's confusing to you about honey oil. When you pack a "metal" tube with herb, inject butane........you create honey oil. The key is to use good satrting material and good butane.not to mention a compatible tube. I just tried the cold water deal last week for the first time. Wow, that makes some killer hash! I've got lots more trimmings for another go around but still have a nice chunk left. I don't know if it's because I haven't had hash in 20 years or what but a few hits and my whole day is shot. I'm so impressed with what I put in and how much I ended up with that I'm sticking to the water method. Easy, clean, no fire hazard, real nice yield, an all around good time lol.

 

Well, I am not a fan of the alchohol extracts. But what I have tried seemed really dirty..


Bubble-hash and the BHO are the best to smoke. Nothing like watching that stuff bubble up and melt when you throw some heat to it! HHHHMMM Yummy! LOL


Made the bubble hash a few times, man it's definetely some work. The BHO looks simple enough, just never tried it and would like to read a bit more about the "buddering up" process.

I questioned this from the get go, I was shown the technique and always knew you should no smoke from plastics rubbers or even copper for that matter. Good thing I only did this twice.

 

You probably only got a little bit of drain bamage Solo...........J/K.

 

Ive only made BHO and after making my tube from a turkey stainless turkey baster. I have found this to be so clean and easy. After trying this I dont know why anyone would ever try anything elese.


Cheif I do have a question for you. Why is it everytime I make BHO it turns hard like rock candy but if I buy Honey oil from the Club it is more of a liquid?
