Its only day 6 of 12/12. I know thats generally too soon to tell gender. Im pretty sure Im seeing little balls though. Theyre in little clusters of 3 right now. Yesterday the werent there though. They showed up after 1 night. Should I give it more time to be sure? But if I do it could screw up my other plant right? Maybe itll turn out to be a hermie. The second plant isnt showing any sighns of sex yet. This would realy suck if its a male. Next time I might just go with feminized seeds b/c I only have room for 2 girls at a time.

sounds to me like it's a male or hermie. either way it's useless for your small personal grow. you can safely wait a few more days to be sure. pollen normally isn't released until at least a week after more than enough balls have shown to make it obvious that it's a male. even if some pollen is released in the next few days it won't be enough to riddle your other plant with seeds, assuming it's female. most likely though the female won't show until after you have identified the male.

feminized seeds are definitely worth the price for a small time grower. i have a 250W box that can only finish up to 4 plants. last time i planted 1 fem'd seed and a few regulars. all the others were male or hermie so i was left with just 1 female. next time i plan on starting at least 2 feminized seeds along with some regulars to make sure i get a bigger yield. if i could only fit 2 plants in my box i would definitely use all fem'd seeds.

if you want to order some fem'd beans for your next grow and you already know of a strain you want, send a private message to jay and he'll probably be able to get it for you. even if you don't know what you want he can help you pick a good strain.

Plenty of time to tell sex before pollen release . Heck it's gottta release from something . And before those balls are big enough to release even a blind man can tell .

Yeah if you see balls it's gotta go but a couple of days to get the heart to kill it won't hurt .

On your chances of any one seed being fem . 50 % (roughly , and assumed for this discussion only)

On your chances of any two seeds sprouting at least one fem . 75%

On your chances of any three seeds sprouting at least one fem . 87.5% take it from there . . .

Odds are odds and don't always hold , but you may see the advantages to planting 3 or more seeds in the hope of getting two fems for the cabinet .

Hope that helps , Strato .

"Yeah if you see balls it's gotta go but a couple of days to get the heart to kill it won't hurt"

that's how i felt about males at first, but now it's very easy for me to chop them. it's always an easy choice because i know without the boys my girls will get plump with sinsemilla. i just hope when i have kids i don't have a girl. i'd hate to kill all her boyfriends for fear that they might ... i can't even think about it.

anyway, if you want to play the odds with regular seeds then the most common method of getting X number of females is to plant 2X seeds. in your case, however, you only want to finish 2 plants, so playing the odds you would want to plant 4 (or more) seeds. this may be possible, but only if you have enough space for all these plants. generally you will have to start flowering with 12/12 before you can determine sex, so all those plants could get crowded if you have a small box. that's something to consider.

also, statistics are most accurate with a large sample size. in other words, if you plant 100 seeds you will get a male:female ratio very close to 1:1, but if you can only plant less than 10 seeds the chances of that ratio varying are much greater. as i stated earlier, my previous grow that produced no females from regular seeds is a key example of this rule. of course, the chance of getting 100% females is exactly the same as getting 100% males (albeit a very low chance), but i'd rather not bet on it considering the time it takes for a plant to mature and then show sex. for this reason i have decided that feminized seeds are the way to go in my particular situation, and i think your situation is very similar.

Yeah , feminized seeds are a great choice in lots of cases .

And you are absolutely right about the small statistical sample having a higher ratio of abnormal results .

I was kinda giving that info as a sort of guideline about the odds . Guidline , not Gospel , damnit .

As you can easily see , and have pointed out , the odds of the unlikely diminish with more seeds planted . Maybe 4 for 2 isn't enough considering the time commitment , as you also point out . And if you have the heart to kill , which you must , then overplanting and killing fems is part of the game too .

As always two cabinets is bettter than one , but a Compact FLo in another room on a 12/12 timer can sex some cuttings in aerated water . Knowing the sex of "unsexed" mothers is a handy thing , if you think about it . Weeding the males if desired without actually flowering the plant . Gaining the space for the girls of the bunch to continue a little more veg time in a less crowded area .

    Just some blazin' thoughts .

    Stratoooooo .

very good points, indeed. i didn't mean to imply that your suggestions were wrong. it really depends on how much space herbalicetea has in his grow box. he said he can only grow 2 plants so i assumed that, like me, he has a small grow area. i just wanted him to make sure he considers every angle.

Im going to make that dank milk out of the leaves. Should I flush the plant out first? I read I should soak them in water over night. Should I pick the leaves, then right after soak them, then boil in whole milk. Is that right? Or do they need to dry out first? And if so can I just put them in the oven or drier for a little while?

Sorry for all the questions. Just tring to cut my losses and get a little buz out of my baby. Its realy going to suck to have to off her.

Got no idea , herbal .

What I was saying in the numbers game above is that with a small space you've got to make the most of it sometimes , pushing things to the limit , till you get a flow of clones , overplanting within reason , and overcrowding within reason , coupled with brutal killing of plants that are under performing , as well as males and hermaphrodites .

Planting two at a time , hoping for 1 , with 3 harvests maybe 4 a year . . . might take a while to find a suitable mother , if lucky , and you live long enough . Some plantings might go bust with no fems at all as you point out . Tragic in such a scheme .

There are constraints of small scale growing . But I think steps can be taken to improve the long term output of a micro grow .

thc content in males is minimal at best. i wouldn't waste my time trying to make cannabutter or bhang, but i know some people have done it and swear that their males got them high. when i trim my buds i throw out any leaves that do not have visible trichomes (crystals) on them.
