well guys, i'm going in in two weeks to get my MMJ card so i figure its about time to get started building my medicine closet. any suggestions would be appreciated, and i will post pics and such as i go along, so this thread may well turn in to a grow log. the space i have to work with is an apartment closet approximately 2' x 8'. when it comes time to clone i'm going to build a separate veg cab out of a desk following a design i saw someone else use on this site because i'd have too much problem with light filtering through if i tried to have veg and flower both in the closet. currently all i have for lighting is 2x 4' daylight (cool) spectrum flouros for veg. i'm going to go to the store later today to try and pick up some cfls for this as well, as well as to use later in flowering. one of my questions is this: i'm intending to buy a purchased but never used dual output 175w HPS (I think, may be MH) ballast with 2 bulbs and reflectors. due to my medical condition i'm assuming that i am going to have at most 5 plants flowering at any given time, but that number may go as high as 8. because this isn't quite as much light as i think i'm going to need for flowering (and because i want to test the theory about UV light being linked to trichrome production) i'm going to add probably 6 or so CFLs for flowering. will the added light really be that big of a bonus for the smaller number of plants i'm going to have to do? also, i'm having a hard time finding the light system I want online so i can price check it. anyone have any experience with this kind of setup? I'm going to be using the 3 part GH hydro ferts in 3 gallon hempy bucket setups along with Azomite if i can find anyone to take the online order for me. if not then i'm stuck with Cal-Mag. does anyone have any other major suggestions as far as beginner ferts go? for temperatures i'm going to keep the ballast at the top of the closet. hopefully that will keep it in about the target range, but i have a thermometer so i can test around where i need to put it in the closet to keep the best temperature. for smell i was thinking of putting one of the $80+ air ionizers inside the closet, but thats more for the convenience of being able to move it to a different room because i stink up my apartment frequently . i'm open to and looking into other options. lastly for bugs... i'm trying to find a Neem plant to keep in the grow room with the other ladies. i've been kind of stumped on this recently but bug strips and cups of water with some gatorade mix and a drop of dish soap has been sufficing. should i stick to a simpler bug solution like strips or should i go ahead and keep trying to find a neem plant? thanks for fighting through this post guys. i'm heading to the store tomorrow morning and need to decide if i want CFLs or not, so opinions are greatly appreciated. EDIT: i just read that using a 150w HPS or 175w MH means that the light can be 10-12 inches from the plant without scorching. is this true or do they still have to be a long way away?
use your hand to check to see if the light is too close or not...hold your hand on top of the plant and put the light above your hand and lower the light until it starts to get warm..then raise the light a few inches above that...make sure you remember that a plant can grow quite a bit at first...so if you have the light too close or borderline make sure you check it often...like a couple times a day... also wanted to tell you there is a new person here..i will try to find her name that is from, i believe, oregon, and i thought you were from wash and told her you were looking for info about mmj....she is mmj provider in oregon...thought she might be able to help you with info...though probably not exactly like wash she might be able to help with info sites and such....good luckk oh on the light..at first if you are too far away on seedlings your seedlings might stretch so it is important that the light is close enought to provide light buy not so close to hurt anything...good luck..
Ok for you lights,go here great prices i have used them myself,so have many others from here. And for the neem,i would just get some neem oil. And for the nutes i go here,better prices I.M.O.A. then HTG. www.cheaphydroponics.com And no matter what the add tells you about how close you can keep the light.Always double check like Ncmaineac said(with the hand meth.).Hope that helped some
all right thanks guys. I just got a thermometer, fan and the materials i need to get started on making a slew of 5 gal hempy buckets. reason i was asking about the lights is because i was trying to decide wether to buy them or not... kinda hard to check that way before hand. i guess i can just check after. the neem thing can wait. for now i have bug strips and that should be able to get me through the first starting part at least. i'm also about to place my orders for PH balancers, FloraKleen (flush) and the GH 3 part fertilizer. one last question about this... should I add dolomite lime to the bucket mix or will the GH 3 part supply enough calcium and magnesium? edit: going to buy the PH balancers locally but i just ordered the 3 part fert and the flush. thanks for the sites man!
I build a veg cab under my desk. Well its a box with a light in really, but thats all you need. I dont have any fans or anything in. Its light proof so its completely stealth. Ive has 4 ppl in the room with the lights on and noone even noticed it. Ok there is a fan in the pic but i never turn it on Under the desk with the door open
gangster man... sadly though i don't have a particularly good space for that... i eventually i was thinking about converting an armoire or dresser to a veg cab but that's probably about 6 weeks away
