Bummer.... Were either parent autos? If not how does a "normal" photoperiod straint become an auto?

No, neither parent was an auto. There's an afgani indica (Alien Technology) in this strain that seems to have autoflower traits.

I imagine Useless could answer your question on how a photoperiod plant ends up with autoflower traits better than I can.

Hopefully he will chime in as I am curious just as an FYI

So I managed to get a few males that didn't auto on me. Here's two that are close to dropping pollen. I'm leaning towards the one on the left because of structure and he's got more pollen sacks so I'm going to say he's 'yielding' more. The third male just went into flower so I'm waiting to see how he does. Also got 6 females vegging out in 3 gal bags. I'll get pictures of them up tomorrow.

How much light? If the room is crowded that could be why. So it could just be "autoflowering" because the room is over capacity for the the light. Some may argue, but I've seen it and corrected it first hand. If nothing else might add some light to see if it halts the flower progression. May work, mat not. Though wennever know until we try.

Yeah this thread's got my head spinning. Freaks me out to think that autoflower traits just appear.

Now that I am thinking of it, I just realized something. I've got a tray of clones that are all fully budding under 18/6 and a floro. They have all grown into the light and are about 10" tall, in rockwool cubes crowded together in a clone tray. Environment's been stable. I have seen this before and they stop budding once they get planted and start growing in earnest.

Thus I agree that certain conditions can cause a plant to bud prematurely. I would further say with confidence that correcting the conditions that are causing the budding will stop it.

They were under a 400w hps. No where near over crowded. I'm not the only one seeing this trait. Actual breeders using Alien Kush have sold offspring that auto'd. There was an over hyped breeder named "Alien" (not the creator of Alien Kush) that sold beans on THCFarmer that auto'd, Lemon Alien Dawg. I think it's a selection issue. The females didn't auto, just males.

I've noticed that root bound plants will throw pistils like crazy, but I haven't had any full on flower.

That sounds like what I have seen. I'm calling throwing pistils like crazy "budding" :roffl: So that is not whats going on with you?

Interesting. I simply love this type of shit. The only good thing the internet has done besides porn sites is much easier collaboration around the world. Even though you are around IDK 5 hours from me.... LMAO

The one thing I've been trying to follow is the sub species. Supposedly rudderalis is used in creation of AF. I can't say for sure because for one I've never looked all that far into it nor do I have any experience with AF or breeding for them. Now not saying you are trying to breed AFs just AFs are a side I never really dove into. So I'm very limited in the knowledge I have of them. All I really know is what I've seen either through friends and online.

Though what could be interesting is if you tried using one of those seemingly apparent AF males to makes some crosses with to see what those females do. Maybe that makes them AF, maybe it really does nothing.

But yeah any chance of being rootbound as FF pointed out? I know one of the first things I thought when I saw those tall plants in the solo cups was honestly "Sweet mother of God, how are those not root bound already?". LOL Then again i could make some mean bushes in solo cups just steadily trimming roots back and pruning. Anyways I said nothing because the plants looked pretty healthy. But he's correct that could be another cause since light doesn't appear to be an issue. But then again, could just be response to something. But again back to what you said, could be something natural and observed with this lineage.

Either way I'm staying in tune with this. You got my attention. Seems like something else to learn and look into with the others you mentioned.

I'm talking about single pre-flowers everywhere, not actual budding.

I've had unwanted auto's before, but they were females and not males. Bought some CaliConnection's SFV Og Kush a few years back that auto'd on me. Swerve claimed he outsourced the seed making, and whoever he had making seeds had an "unknown male" that caused the auto offspring. Me personally, I think the Afgani genes have some rederalis in them.

I didn't think about keeping any of the auto's pollen.
