    badlands If Not Now When?

I built a bubbles cloner, I took a rubbermaid square tub put in a 10in air stone cut a peice of styrofoam to fit the top of the tub, I then punched small holes in the styrofoam and pushed the cuttings through the holes, I made sure the tips of the cuttings were submreged in the bubbleing water then put it under 24hr flour lights, the foilage never wilted at all but the stems got real soft and squishy where they went through the styrofoam, can someone help me with this and tell me what I'm doing wrong, I only have one plant and need to clone from her( it's the plant I posted pics of awhile back) need help again,Thanks peeps>>>.

    :wave:High badlands,

The stems are getting too wet causing damping off. Try keeping the ends of the cuttings just above the water. With an active bubbler the water should be an airy mist above the surface. This will be more than enough moisture to root, yet keep the stem dry and healthy.

Yes I did'nt give that any thought thanks earth girl, have you ever used this type of cloner? and if ya have do I need anything in the water? I see what you are saying about the water level kinda like DWC, do you think the light on 24hr is ok? thanks EG for your help>>>.

You could add the _tinyest_ drop of SuperThrive, and/or a couple of drops of UpStart, as a tonic and root stimulator.

Try to keep the water pH around 6.5, and the water temp. from 65-75'F.

24 hours of light is fine, as you want to get vegging as soon as possible. If you were cloning for sex, you would start 12's immediately.

Also make sure you regularly change your water. I have had 100% success with my bubbler.

Aye, make sure your cuttings aren't too wet or too dry. Find the happy medium.

I've found cuttings to root quicker with brief periods of darkness; ie: 4, 6, or 8 hours of darkness alternated with 20, 18, or 16 hours of fluorescent light respectively.

I believe I have noticed beneficial results in the plants' overall well-being by giving them a 3-4 hour dark period each night. Maybe they need a break, or a nap, inorder to stay in top form. I know it does wonders for me! In my opinion, no growth is lost during the short dark period. I always observe new growth in the form of small bright yellow(almost glowing) leaflets which green up soon after the lights go on.

I agree. My first batch of clones I did in the bubbler on 24hrs were much slower to root in comparison to the second batch on 20/4.

Yep, fresh water and cleanliness are essential. And the more bubbles, the better. And keeping the reservoir dark will help you control it's pH and O2.

A side note about naptime for the garden. Try to stage it consistantly, and all in one segment. At one time, I was reducing light for economics. 25% reduction meant 6 hours of dark. Then, for some reason I divided it into 3 hour segments 12 hours apart. I don't find a record of why, but I did note that I had a big batch of male preflowers and the worst case of hermies. I think giving them a cycle of 9hr days and 3hr nights was an insult to the species' genetic memory, and they thought the world was ending.

eg:spin: hopes to have a grow someday which will allow the application of scientific method. And a devoted lab assisstant to counteract my AAADD.
