When trimming your plants, trim the buds over a plastic sheet and collect all the trimmings up. Fan leaves too. Dry it out (as you would your buds) then cook it up... Boil a large pot of water. A big wide pot is best. Add a pound of butter, let it all melt. Add your dried trimmings. (1/2-1 oz per pound of butter) Boil for about a half hour. (it will stink, so be advised) Take the pot off the stove and let cool a bit so you wont burn yourself in the next step. Take a cheesecloth (a pair of knee high pantyhose works too) and stretch over a large jar or another pot (taller and narrower than the first helps). Pour the mixture through the cheesecloth to filter out the trimmings. Pour the strained liquid back into the bigger pot. Sit it out on your balcony and let cool. If the outside temps are quite cool, you can just leave it outside overnight. Or put it in your fridge overnight. The butter will float to the top and solidify. The next day, take a butterknife and cut the the butter away from the edge of the pot, and remove the butter. Discard the rest. Viola! Cannabutter. Use it in your favorite recipe. Be careful with the amount you injest the first time. It can be unexpectedly strong! And remember that when eating cannabis there is a delay in the onset of the high. 2-3 hours to really kick in and it will last 5-6 hours. Enjoy!
heres some canna budder i made- a lil to strong! it tastes like str8 bud....i couldnt even put it on toast! gagger. so i made some brownies good post- thats how i did mine. /monthly_2006_08/0Picture018_thumb.jpg.ed09385353d8b3665bddf51cc5006cb7.jpg
yeah, my first batch was a gagger too! LOL i mixed it about 50/50 with honey and spread on toast. or if you are bold, just take a spoonful like medicine. putting it in brownie or cookie mix (chocolate) helps hide the gag. take care to strain out as much as the solids as you can but don't squeeze the cheesecloth at all. there will be plenty enough THC in the fluid.
ok, and... you say boil for about a half hour, but how much water do i use? and when do i know its done? do i wait for the water to evaporate? or what?
you just have to experiment. not knowing the quality of your trim means you can't be specific. use the biggest pot you have, a 6 or 8 quart would do. fill it 3/4 full and boil. add your butter and trim and just continue boiling and stirring. you may even add more water if you boil off too much. the idea isn't to condense the mixture but rather to release the THC from the trim into the water/butter broth, which it will cling to the fat in the butter. the butter acts as a medium which attracts the THC. i guess i should've included that info above. you will be VERY surpised at how high you get off the trim that you otherwise would have discarded.
best for me ive done this about five six times and last time i used a crock pot on low for about 12 hours that seemed to be alot more potent than the ones i use less time
so... just made an attempt with some crap i had around... learned an important lesson... coffee filters dont work. so now i know that for my next attempt with decent stuff...
Of course, just cut the above recipe accordingly. Like if you want to use only 1/2 pound of butter, use 1/2oz of trim. O a 1/4 pound of butter and 1/4 oz of trim. Or for a really strong batch use bud.
