Is there a real need to flush before harvest when using organics??? Also, what do you guys think of starting an FAQ for organics??
My experience is with living soils. My worry was not over loading the soil with any solution. I do tend to not feed late in the bloom stage hence my version of "flush." What I see is the use of "Organic" ferts like one uses chemical ones. I don't have experience in that area.
yeah, how bout' a little input guys and gals. People keep wanting more threads in the organic section but no one wants to say anything. lol Gettin' ready to harvest and need a little advice. I might go with watering only for the last two weeks and call it good.
I use organics, sometimes slaughterhouse products that claim to be organic....so on the safe side- i flush 7- 14 days tops for a plant in a big container or outdoors. i do this to let the plant feed off of itself for any lil food it might be able to use it eatc it up itself further decomposing and starting the curing process earlier. when you chop i leave then hung upside down for 3-5 days depending on how thick the buds are and the quantity hanging in the proximity.... fan on low- not high and not trying to flash dry them is key.... slow cure is the ONLY way!
I was wondering right! Im very very near harvest, well i should be im week 8 into flowering now , but theres not as much of the pistols turned browny red, enough for me, what shud i do??? week 8 tomoro(sun, is the last day of week 8) so, i was wondering , im using organics, i use BIO-GROW/BIO-BLOOM and BIO_TOPMAX(which is a bud-booster!!!), any suggestiions???? (they just dnt look proper ready, even though the THC is coating all the buds NOW, and has been for nearly two weeks, any help to any other solutions to this would be most helpfull, im growing sum nutty SKUNK,lol, and it just doesnt seem ready(totally!), so shud i just give it a good week with no fertz at all now, or continue for another week(with fertz then flush), or what???? Help please!!! nugs look good enough to smoke once theyve dried, im sure!, but i want that more redish/brown look, before harvest, what should i do???? feel free to asnswer anyone at all!!!! as im looking for many options on this one , as its my big plant, 1 meter 28cm tall and a very high yeild is on it, so dnt want to waste/(want to make it very,well,...as strong as it can get!!!!(potency/browner/reder, more of a couch lock stone more to the fact....... or will it be fine by the sounds??? the buds are about 60- possibly,75% brown/redish pistols while the rest are still whiteish looking.....!!!
http://420genetics.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1002&d=1141817465Hey UrBigBuddie, I have heard that some strains take longer to mature as in 9weeks or more. Some people say if they look ready to you, give them another week. The way I am checking and also the way a lot of other people check is get a pocket microscope and check the trichs. If you want that couch lock stone I believe you want the trichs to be cloudy and an amber mix. Radio Shack has a pocket microscope for like $9.95. 60-100 power. This link might help you.
Harvesting!!!! Thamk you my man T.O.A, thanx for that info, i was wondering iff i should do that just now or what!!! Cheers my friend.... UrBigBuddie........
Cheers for the INFO!!!! Thanx projecX, that was of some help that link , thanks again man...... good site and faq's man, cheers!!! Most appreciated, UrBigBuddie......... :sign13:, Keep growing!!
when i first came to GK everyone was preaching about how you need to flush with 3 to 5 times the amount of water as the size of your container. That always seemed like a lot to me. It sure seems like a lot when using organics. I use the Fox Farm trio and basically what I do is run quite a bit of water through the soil about 10 days prior to harvest. NOWHERE NEAR 3-5 times the size of my pot. after that I'll water a few times in that last 10 days even though they don't need it. never that much at a time, but enough to force the water out of the bottom of the pot. The water usually runs clear from the get go. that's my version of the flush. I don't feel like the flush has to be that "violent" if you are using organics. when using organics, i believe that a lot of the flavor/harshness/burn comes from the drying/curing processs more than the nutrients. as long as they weren't completely burned up of course.
good call WA, i only got 1 grow under my belt and i agree with you whole heartedly. you don't have to flush with that much water when using organics. just be sure not to give anything the last 7 days besides water.i didn't stop giving nutes to my ladies until 10-12 days before harvest and my buds are super smooth. later. nugz
Thanks wawona, I read a lot of posts about flushing and I also thought some were a little extreme. That's why I thought I should get a litte more input. Will take your advice as usual as it it always good.
But then again, flushing completely makes the plant absorb all it has left in it,then the plant knows its time has come and thats when you get the most of it.
The only reason that i may not flush this time around is because i may reveg the plant. Otherwise organic or chemical, i would flush(which means just use water) the last couple weeks until harvest. I think that people shouldn't say flush the last two weeks, and instead should refer to it as starving it of nutrients. Flushing to me is just what Wa said..about flushing with a few gallons of water. And this is only used to fix salt buildup or over fertilization. The two can be easily confused as people really just use the wrong term for what is actually done the final two weeks before harvest.
With organics I just give them straight water the last two weeks. Now with chem ferts I think a 'flush' IS in order as the nutes DO affect flavor IMO. But why anyone would wanna use chem ferts is beyond me anyway.:rolleyes2:
But why anyone would wanna use chem ferts is beyond me anyway.:rolleyes2: Amen to that Herbsparky, the hell with the chems. Thanks again for everyones input on this. 6 week flowering mark was last Saturday and that will be the last nutes for these girls. Just water from here on out. Plants are already sucking the life out of the fan leaves like crazy. Getting pretty yellow from the bottom up but the buds are gettin' nice and fat!!!!! I'm quite happy with this first grow. This Sunday I will be going to pick up a few bags of ocean forest and some perlite for the next one which should be bigger and better. Rookie time is over and now it's time to get down to some serious growing. Life is good in the Trichome Valley.
Agree with you HERBS!!!!!! Totally, i was thinking thee exact same, but jusdt wasnt sure!!!! Thanx for the added advice on this one HERBS as i wanna get this one as good as it gets, ive tried a flash dry to taste an savour the bud stength, and it was WoW!!!! as it was still a lil damp, the buds didnt burn great, but i sure got a right great stone n buzz after i had finished the spliff myself.....WOW it was good, but it more or less creaped up on me , and got better as the joint had finished!!!!!
LOL.....oh I know the feeling. I know for a fact I can harvest a branch (grown with organics)...dry it for a week...and then smoke it. It will be smooth too...not harsh in any way. With the chem fed plants I have smoked in the past it was not so. They always burned my throat and had to be cured a long time to rid the buds of that harshness. Mine were always sweet and tasty doing it just as I stated. The trick is to get the plant to suck the nutrients from the larger fan leaves before it's harvested. This means there are less ferts IN the buds because the leaves are allowed to do their job. People who have dark green leaves at harvest kill me because I can just imagine the smoke.....sure it looks good, but does it smoke good? That's the difference in 'good pot' and 'superb pot' IMO. TIMING is what makes a good grower great!
