When you end the vegetation phase do you immediately start using flowering food or do you gradually work up to flowering food (ie. mixture of vegetation and flowering food) in the first two weeks or so ?

Wein off the veg nutes. Then maybe plain water for one or two waterings.

Start off slow with the flower nutes. Work up to full strength, ie: 1/2 strength, plain water, 3/4 strength, plain water, full strength.

    Hope this helps.

    Peace.....

I was told by my grow guy to start the flowering nutes a week before you switch to 12/12. Any opinions on that?

sounds like good advice to me. I wouldn't mix veg/flower nutes though. I don't think it'd really hurt the plants, but I don't see it doing much to help it either, beyond getting extra nutrients.

Not much sense in feeding flowering nutes BEFORE flowering either, although if you were to experiment with it, I'd say no more than a 3 days or so and use a weak mixture. this MIGHT help it adjust to the flower nutes so when you do switch to flower, it's already acclimated to it and MAY aid in bigger blooms faster, but I really don't know.

Honestly, you're best off just following the instructions on the label.

Rubbish! That's my opinion. A week before flowering the plant can't utilize the increased P and K and are still wanting plenty of N. In fact I feed Vegetative nutes for the first feeding after switching to 12/12 then start flowering nutes around 1 week into 12/12 at light strength and then at week 2 of 12/12 I start the full strength flowering nutes.

i want to clarify something. There is not a lot of difference between vegetative and flowering nutes other than the ratios of NPK are different. The ingredients used to make the nutrients are still going to be the same just in different ratios. So the idea that the plant needs to adjust to flowering nutes or mixing vegetative and flowering nutes together are pointless. The plant has been using the same nutrients throughout it's vegetative cycle as it will be using in it's flowering cycle, it just changes the amounts of which nutrients it's using.

well, I use Floranova nutes and usually go half and half for veg and flower nutes in the first week, then full strength flower in the second. I have also just started flowering nutes in the first week of flower and then come back and given the girls a strong veg nute dose around week 5-6. I prefer using half and half or veg nutes in the first week like Ras said.

I haven't ever really eased them into the flowering nutes PPM wise, since it's made with the same stuff but in different ratios (like Ras said), so I figure there isn't a major amount of shock unless you switch nute lines or something.

Just want to point out the fact that this thread is a prime example of why GK balls. The free exchange of ideas from people's experiences on growing. Just sayin!

For me I think the plants are in need of N while stretching. So veg nutes until the stretching stops. I dont even use flowering enhanceres till the 1st to 2nd week of 12/12.

Cut the Bvitamin first 2 weeks add super phosphate once at switch and make sure to Goliath feed an amino like Mega Green catfish hydroslate (cold press still has the oils and enzymes )and it smells minty. Or some other type so it's got N also blackstapmolassas has iron which helps things stay green.

Very good point Raz but at the same time the highly documented lucas formula uses the same ratio from veg to flower without changeing it.

When my plants go into the flowering tent, they get plain water for the first 2 or 3 waterings. Then I gradually introduce the flower nutes.
