I have been running a passive air flow system, using a 50cfm exhaust fan to bring air in from under my home, and a passive exhaust to vent the air out. This has been working fine up until recently when the day time temps around here climbed over 100* f.. So now i have a temp problem. Heres the low down on my grow area. Its a box 18in X 18in X 40in high. A bit less than 9 cubic feet. It's air tight when i close the door. I am running a 150w hps light mounted on top of the lid of grow-box,and i have a 5 in fan blowing onto light fixture because it doesnt have a remote ballast and it gets pretty hot.The temps inside are climbing into the mid 90"s now, so I went and got another 50cfm exhaust fan and enough air duct to go wherever I want/need to. My ? is this, which way should i run the exhaust and intake? In through the bottom and out the top seems right to me but I want to be sure. Any other opinions or ideas would really help. I,m halfway through 12/12 and I can see a little bit of a drop in growth now. Cant be having none of that going on around here. Please Help.
Howdy! I've been thinking about growing a grow box myself. You'd want to put an exhaust fan on the top. Then maybe put some holes in the bottom, for fresh air to come in. This will help with the heat. Good job, man. But your box seems a little short...are you jogging? Later!
Yeah I'm JOGing one plant in this box. Its freakin' awesome. Got her in a 16 in square ,6 gal pot. She's got 24 tops on her. Anyway thanks for the advice. I have installed the exhaust fan to the side, near the top, but , opposite side of the intake on the bottom. I sure hope this works. I'm forcing 50cfm through about 9cf. Wish me luck. 1 more thought. since I have this planter on blocks, with a drip pan underneith, could I just put a 5lb block of ice in this tray every morning, letting the intake air blow past ice, therefore cooling the air? Would this freeze her out? Just wondering? (Edited by so x ited at 5:17 pm on Aug. 8, 2003)
