Ok so I've decided to jog a couple plants. 1 is a clone and the other is a new seedling. Here is what i have done. I have 2 separate 18in. half round containers, with 1 plant in each, centered in container. After 3rd node I topped them and created 2 tops. I let the tops go for a week til i had enough to bend over, like 3 inches of new growth. Bent them and staked them down behind the growth tip. After just 2 days I have about 1 in of new growth and most of the veg is growing up toward light.
Now is where I need help. Do i just keep pinning down the new growth? I was thinking that it would work if I top each grow tip, let 2 emerge, then jog those two as well, I dont know. As I said, this is my 1st jog attempt, so somebody help me out please. I am trying to get more colas of course, that is the goal right?

X...When I JOGed I would not top them at all. I just staked the main tip down and waited for the branches to grow and then staked them down as well. You will know when the time is right to stop JOGing and let them grow vertically. The plant will tell you believe me. It's just something you have to experience though....I don't know how else to explain it. The plant just fills the space and there is no more need to JOG.

I have jogged a fimmed plant and topped plant and one without either... have to say it made almost no difference [IMG]

Thanks Herb and WiG. So Herb, I need to stake down "ALL" the branches, not just the main stem. cool. Then, when all the space is filled in pot, then allow it to all grow vertically. Is that it? Or go straight to 12/12 at that point, since I'll already have seveal growth tips at that point.

I guess like everything else in growing, experience is the best way to learn. But it is sure nice to have all the GK'ers to help eliminate the "First Timer" mistakes. Most of them anyway. Thanks again for the great info. I'll let you know how it turns out. I will be harvesting in 2-3 weeks on myfirst grow. They are looking so good right now. Just flushed last week and the buds are really ballooning up now. YEE-HAW

You got it X. When to go to 12/12 is up to you. Since the growth tips are low I tend to let them veg a bit more brfore going 12/12.

PutTheKnivesOn, how powerful is your HPS and about how much does the heat shield reduce the temperature?

Its a 4oow Son-t-agro, and the heatsheild enabled me to have the light as close as 2 inches away. Intensity is the key! ;)

One thing to understand is how a plant knows what is the main growth tip. There is a growth auxin that goes to the highest point of the plant, this auxin enables that point to continue growing past the lower parts of the plant. Anyone who has jogged or low stress training will notice this. As you stake the main tip down the next highest tip will start to grow past. This is just what i do. I never stake to the soil....for me it's just a pain. I just drilled holes every inch to inch and a half around the pot...this acts like an anchor for your tieing. I just circle the pot and tie branches closer to the bottom to existing holes i already passed with the main tip. So far i'm into week 3 of flowering and my plants are no taller than 6". If you notice a branch passing the others you can either tie it down further or if space height remains you can raise the main tip to take over again. I have never fimed my plants.

I read this thread and a bunch of others on jogging and decided to give it a try with my plant since I am currently using floros. I didn't think it had outgrown its pot, but repotted for the sake of the jogging, and holy crap did it have a lot more roots a lot deeper than I thought. As rather a newbie grower, realizing how much I have learned and am still learning here, just wanted to say it's awful nice to have all this information close at hand. So thanks again to GK and to everyone who posts. I'll let you all know how it goes.
