question, anybody out there using mj for multiple sclerosis? I have ms and I wonder if anybody out there is getting relief from mj and if so, which symptoms are relieved by this friendly plant? PM me if you wish, I'd like to hear more about this. Thanks in advance, Pook

You know the reason why I never minded worry about the police arresting me for marijuana, or going to court for marijuana, or even going to jail for marijuana. Because it is well established in the system that I don't feel like it's wrong. It's not a public health risk and I'm not sorry for doing it. The penal system is based around bringing about remorse and without moral authority you can't illicit remorse. If I get caught going even 5 miles over the speed limit and get a ticket, I'll say I'm sorry, but I will NEVER apologize for doing this. I'm sorry I know this has nothing to do with that.
I do not have MS. that being said, I believe it slows the degeneration of myelin sheaths and helps with pain and muscle control (spasticity). anyone else care to chime in? one other note... as I'm sure you're aware, MS is a serious illness. trying to remedy yourself with basically an "over the counter" (illegal) drug seems to me like playing russian roulette. I'd consider discussing it with your neurologist and ask him to research the literature on the topic with an open mind (there are several articles and studies pertaining to this question)... but I wouldn't gamble that condition in a MMJ clinic. most neurologists don't hold a high opinion of MMJ (i'd know, my dad is one), but try it on your own. if it offers relief for some of your symptoms and you have a good rapport with your doctor, you should supposedly be able to be honest with him and have him take your suggestions seriously.
Ms WHEN YOUR LEGS GET APUTATED YOUR KIDNEYS AR TOAST AN EVERY BRUISE TURNS GANGREEN QUALITY OF LIFE BECOMES YOUR ONLY CONCERN:bong2: assit: :fly:
I don't mean to be rude, but if quality of life is your only concern then I'd suggest bingeing on heroin. if longevity and the quality of health care you receive (i.e. slowing down the course of the disease) are concerns, a doctor will probably give better advice than a forum. MS is a serious, complicated and difficult to treat illness. if you want a bunch of people to tell you "Marijuana cures everything", then you've likely come to the right place. but you have a serious disease that requires a more serious answer than you're likely to get through a computer screen. there's a reason neurologists recieve a minimum of 11 years of higher education. edit: I went to WebMD.com and looked up marijuana and MS, and this is the article I found which concurs with my background knowledge of the topic under an article headed "alternative treatment for MS" this agrees with my prior knowledge... that the existing medical community doesn't like marijuana due to the "proven" side effects. in the movie "The Union, The Business of Legalization", they interviewed an MS patient and showed how he was before and after and it had an IMPRESSIVE effect on his massive, body wrenching tremors (when he was trying to smoke I was surprised he didn't chip a tooth from slamming his mouth into the metal pipe repeatedly). I don't know wether or not you can find evidence to support that it slows the degeneration of the myelin sheaths of your neurons, but I seem to recall seeing that in a more scholarly article than the one referenced before some time ago. as an aside, MMJ is also used in the management of IBS (bowel control) and depression which may or may not apply to your case. hope this helps!
interesting, thanks yea, i smoked mj looooong before my diagnosis at age 52...as of now i do not have spasticity, or any pain: just the occasional numbness in # 3-4 fingers of each hand, a little imbalance sometimes. so i am no where near needing it for my illness, thankfully. i am being actively treated with copaxone for the disease, and its a good drug. unfortunately, without a national health care plan, many ms sufferers cannot get the drug for free, sucks dont it?
amputation? what th? I did not know that was a possibility, or the kidney thing, you are blowing (marijuana) smoke, right?
ms my cousins wife has been sick for 25 years at least diagnost 25 years ago all those drugs help but smokin' herb makes her feel good the nuse thought that she was not gonna make it through the night & asked her what she wanted &she said a big fat bud & the nurse brought her a bud light bev told her nooooooo! iwant sticky dank skunky weed not light beer gotta love her:bong2: assit: :fly:and your not rude just uninformed idont know anything about ms but i know how bad bev got some people are like the most frail bodied people but strong stone inside & thatswhat gives me the strength to fight life weather it be a gun in my face or a bad flu or pnumonia i'll fight with my dieing breath to survive thatswhat isaw a little 98 pound woman do so my 200 pound ass cant quite
WHEN YOUR LEGS GET APUTATED YOUR KIDNEYS AR TOAST AN EVERY BRUISE TURNS GANGREEN QUALITY OF LIFE BECOMES YOUR ONLY CONCERN amputation comes generally from poor circulation... and is not common for MS patients if I remember correctly. I don't know for sure about the kidneys, but the only statement that is highly possible is the one about gangrene, because many of the drugs used to treat MS are immunosuppressants. Multiple Sclerosis basically means that your body's immune system starts attacking its own nerve cells if I understand it correctly. therefore, one of the most common therapies included in a MS treatment program is immunosuppressants (drugs that shut down the immune system, thereby stopping the damage to your own body). a lowered immune system makes you more susceptible (sp?) to any sort of bacterial or viral infection, possibly including gangrene. ok now i'm going to be rude. if you don't have advice that relates to the question asked, don't offer it. apart from my dad treating MS patients, I worked in an office with 3 neurologists doing medical transcription (typing out doctor's notes) for close to four years. I'm not a doctor, but one would think I would have picked up at least a small amount of information in that time, seeing as I've typed out well over a hundred letters pertaining to the treatment of patients with this disease. this is a serious question and deserves a well though out, or at least partially properly spelled, answer. Medical Marijuana, in most cases, is used to treat the symptoms of an illness (pain, nausea, etc etc etc) and not the illness itself, with a very few exceptions (such as glaucoma). if you research it and find that it does, in fact, slow the course of the disease, then it may be a good idea to at least discuss it as an option with your doctor. however, it seems you don't need it for pain or spasticity at this point... and IMO if it doesnt help with the core problem, it's better to not take medicine you don't need. all the same, I'd still ask your doctor. if you still feel like you want to try it, then go for it. it's not gonna kill ya, which is more than can be said for many other "medicines", including some of the ones used for this disease. I don't know for sure if it affects numbness in MS patients, but it has been used to treat permanent nerve damage (a possible complication of almost any surgery or broken bone). this permanent nerve damage often means numbness as well as pain, so its possible that it may work in your case. if you want to see, go buy the best "dub" you can find (preferably an indica-dominant strain) and try it when your fingers are bothering you. worst comes to worst, you're out $20-25, which is coincidentally the same as the a copay for the doctors office to go in and talk with him about marijuana. do keep it in the back of your mind, though, because as the disease progresses if some of these symptoms start to show, then taking marijuana may substantially improve your quality of life. edit: just re-read... noticed you said you were on copaxone. that's great, I believe it is not an immunosuppressant. so you're probably safe from gangrene. one thing that's common is for drug reps to give samples of the medicine (basically trial packs) to doctors that prescribe it, as an encouragement to put more patients on the drugs they represent. in my area at least, these doctors can get basically all of the non-addictive medicines they want. sometimes those trials are used just to start a patient on the meds, then they give them a scrip. however, IME in cases of legitimate financial need, these trial packs can be given repeatedly to a patient in order to help cut the cost of treatment of his/her disease. I've got a serious problem with people getting rich off the misery of others... but it happens. still, some good, moral doctors try and find loopholes to give their patients in need a helping hand... all is not lost!
medical canabis doctors & drug companys give you chemicals to make you feel better al the time so do i eat them or eat canna butter coockies & bong out its not that it takes the pain away it just puts me in a stat of mind to deal with it... now i find it helps with the insomnia due to RLS & muscle spasms and when my knees feel like a tooth ache from the weather changes:bong2: assit: :fly: P.S. i just got my papers to renew my medical card from the OREGON DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
