Please help, I have read over a hundred listing and become more confused than before! I have a walking closet 3 feet deep by 6 feet long and 10 feet high, I have 18 one month old plants under double 60 Watt H.O. 46 inches long Flo and a 400 Watt HPS. The recommended grow area per plant is 1 sq foot so I am growing 18 and hoping to end up with 9 female. - Do I need a Co² source and a ventillator considering that I leave the closet doors open? - Do I currently have enough light for my 18 --> 9 plants? - Since the recommended grow area is 1 Sq foot by plant, can I grow 30 to end up with 15? Your answers, comments and advice are much appreciated Cheers (Edited by Mauricio at 6:12 pm on Jan. 12, 2005)
I'm no expert. That being said, you will not have enough room for that many plants. You could possibly grow most of them long enough to sex them, then you would just have to pick 6-8 of your favorites.Plan using the back 4ft in lenght of your closet for your grow. Your 400 watt will cover about 4 ft,and you have 3 ft in width so that is a good start. Reminds me of mine. Also you must plan for an exhaust, and possibly scent control. Also plan on an oscillating fan, and a gun. You can throw that one square foot out the wimdow also. You'll find 6 plants from seed in a 4x3 area is packed . Read up on some of the Faqs, and look ou t some of GK's grows . Good luck
I agree with star. If you actually want to have 1 plant per square foot then you would have to start flowering the plants at about 8" tall. IMO I would take star's advice. 400watts of hps light would grow some chronic if it was limited to 12sq feet. Also contray to popular belief, you should not veg plants in 24 hours of light a day. Doing so greatly increases your chances of getting more males than females. 18/6 is a better choice but I think its okay as long as they at least get some dark time

There is a lot of head room in your area. I'd think heat could be removed from the over head. 1.) I have 1000 watts. 2.) 6 - 8 are all I figure have room to grow. 3.) I have massive fresh air. 4.) Killer odor control. Carbon and Ozone. For someone starting out with a 400 ( I have not used one but did use 480 in fluor's) may I suggest 4? Some people pick a Mother they like and clone her so they can do it again. Experience will tell but my first Medical grow was 4 plants and i learned a lot, got a small amount of excelent bud; better bud than I have today but, I digress. Simple is a good way to start. Experience is gained over time. I doubt most people have the instant skill to garden well. That's why GK is here imo. What's yer choice Soil or Hydro? Thank you guys, I am growing in soil and have Mylar on the walls and floor. I am just trying to understand cause there are so many opposing answers in FAQ. I will grow 8 if this is what the experts advice, but have seen this 1 Sq foot/plant posting! What about the Co²? I live in the south and want to finish before the summer, these light are a real heat generator. Thank you again for your time
C02 and AC sound good if you can swing that. No need to worry if you can dry out and cool the C02 rich air me thinks.... Yeah there are as many points of view as there are grains of sand in the Universe. Randy
I run a 430W HPS and find that 8 plants is max. That's with plant rotation as well. A 400W light only has so much coverage so it's not limited to the area you have to work with, but rather the light you are using and it's 'footprint' of usable light.
8 plants max, from seed,or clone? The reason I ask is I will have to make that 6,or 8 decision before long. I'll probably end up with 6 again.
I run a 360w hps and 4 is max in my room (flowering). There should be enough CO2 in the air that you don't have to add any. wa
 @ HiC SFC...either for me. I just have to keep the size to a minimum which is hard with seed plants. It stands to reason that the larger the plants are the fewer you can fit under a 400W light.
Co2 is moot! If your a new grower you should just start w\ the basics. You have them all it sounds like. If you get through a few grows.....then maybe look into co2. In this case....less is better!
