Hi everyone new guy here trying to build a hydroponic kit and I want to make sure if everything is kosher so I'm not burning a hole in pocket. I just purchased this 400 watt hps/mh for right around 40 dollars. Hoping it works with a 5 plant set-up. What do you all think? The link is below.. Can't figure this iPad out.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/400-Watt-HPS-Metal-Halide-Reflector-Bulb-The-complete-kit?item=261006004489&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D9003632332142134949#ht_562wt_922
Not to be a but that light is not the best you could work with, and it helps to ask for opinions before actually making your decision. Its's pointless to ask if it's ideal after you already purchased it. The reflector isn't going to offer much of a footprint, it's designed as a spot light type fixture. More of an industrial type lighting system. Personally I would have gotten a horizontal reflector, but if you really wanted vertical, a parabolic reflector is best, unless you are going to do a vertical lighting grow without any reflector, probably not ideal for very small system. asssit:
Fair enough, what would you suggest I do? I have about a 300$ Price range roughly in constructing a cheap grow room. Perhaps you know of a post here that meets my needs? Any help would be appreciated. I've been lost for about 2 weeks trying to figure out what and what.. There is so many different ways and types of equipment for growing.. Kinda spinnin lol..
Here is a great deal man! With all your lighting needs! Most important part for a plant. http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Electronic-Dimmable-Reflector-Hydroponic/dp/B00521B894/ref=sr_1_11?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1339184767&sr=1-11
Thanks Chaz .. I'm thinking about going with a setup a lot like this showed here.. Hope my research payed off.. Cause this one seems easy enough... http://www.ebay.com/itm/DWC-Hydroponic-Drip-Feed-Grow-System-W-maxijet-pump-net-pots-5-almost-complete?item=280852265657&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D9015993723563573838#ht_2906wt_922
Ok Spiff, here's the deal. Expect to drop $130-$180 on your light if you go new. $50-$100 if you craigslist. I've bought a shitload of light gear from craigslist and I'm in a non-med state. The light you originally posted is a converted high bay industrial light. I've converted close to a dozen of those and they can do the job...just not as well as a set designed for our purpose of growing. The round reflector is for shit unless you're growing a single plant. You'd need an upgrade. $40-$100 depending on what you choose. Next you need airflow. A cheap exhaust fan with enough pull to cool a 400w HID runs $70-$100. Flex ducting for your fan. $30 Power strip with a breaker- $15-$20 timer for your lights $10 small fan to move air within the garden $10-$20 First seeds- $0 bagseed $50-$200 for breeder's genetics. At this point you still need to get the hydro gear and nutes. $? You still will need to address the stench of flowering cannabis. It does smell. A lot. From most expensive to cheapest; Ozone purifiers, carbon filters or ducting into a nearby sewer access are the most popular.
Thanks for takin the time to drop a list for me.. Very appreciative. So a 400watt hps light is fine for like 5 plants? My last post on here had a link to a homemade hydroponics set-up I want to mimic. If all is good.. I'm prepping the lab
Go to Google and search XtraSun grow lights. Or Raptor Hood. That's what you need. Your light is for a single plant or maybe a heat lamp for a snaken Gwt a good light, so you can grow some great plants. Do some look around this site too. You will find a lot of info. Gl.
It is fine for 5 relativly small plants. I've grown 1 plant under 400Watts and I've grown 8 plants under 400 Watts and get this... each time I get around 1/2 a pound total dried weight. Sometimes a little more.
im also wanting to grow 4-5 plants but i want to use CFL's for my veg room any sugguestings?btw the room will be like 3ft by 3ft.
Few lighting facts... Iv used aquariums in the past, the lighting in them seems to do the job until the plant is at 6-7internodes high. You dont want your plants too stretchy, also i ALWAYS wrap the walls of my grow in Mylar to boost the lumens.Heres a good thread from marijaunaforum but i dare say if you scan the Growkind archives(both new and old growkind) then you WILL find this info a plenty.Happy Growing guys:thumbsup:
