I went to Clearwater beach once and it was a nice sunny day but the island was the only thing that wasnt. It looked like it was getting eaten by smoke from a distance and you couldnt even see sun once on the island. Crazy shit.
That's called ground fog. There is a place on 101 between Sausalito and Mill Valley, when the conditions are right the fog comes off the ocean and when it goes over the hills it looks just like a waterfall, except it's a fogfall. Pretty damn cool.
Yeah..that's exactly what I thought of when I saw this. Actually happens fairly regularly on Superior in the winter, just not always at the port, and not usually with such an obvious wall.
