Ok growers, put on your thinking caps and fill this thread. Looking for single growing tips that aren't the obvious (ie; don't tell, no smell no cell blah blah) Mine is to pick up a cheap little shop vac and keep it in or near your indoor garden. Makes cleaning spills of water or dirt, general clean-up, and sucking unwanted pests off your plants a snap. I toss a little diatomaceous earth in the collector bin to kill any pests that may be sucked out of the garden.
Don't over think ! remember it's just a weed ! It just needs water or nutes most of the time.Once you figure out that you got it made.-Bud
the single biggest piece of advice i have learned.... Listen to the advice of accomplished growers... it sounds simple but so many people seek advice and then disregard it. I harken back to my first grow. I adverted disaster by following the sage advice of the seasoned growers here at GK.
I keep a grow log. I have a note pad in my grow area. I keep notes on feeding schedules dates, plain water dates, Ph levels, notes on any extra addtives, ie: Mg, any boosters. I find it easier to track "days" flowering instead of "weeks". I make notes of different strains different needs. To much shit to try and remember. I am a pot smoker after all. Peace.....
:FAQ: No really, it's been to keep your temps in line. Once temperature is good, then the rest is simpler.
Measure you nutes. Start light and work your way up to full strength. Do not keep your lamp too close. Always maintain fresh air flow, and keep temps between 68-80 degrees F. Topping is a great way to maximize space and yield while keeping plants short-ish. DO NOT TELL PEOPLE THAT YOU GROW YOUR OWN- THEY'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU ALONE AND/OR GET YOU BUSTED. PATIENCE IS INVALUABLE IN THIS HOBBY/CAREER FIELD. Observance is almost as valuable as patience.
working at a grow shop After working at a grow shop I have to save most people either 1. over water 2.Ph 3. temps 4.hard water 5.TDS/EC 6.air movement 7.Humidity
When using tents like the Homebox or the Dark Room, cover the outside of the tent with a light proof tarp or panda film. They're NOT 100% light proof, so take the extra precautions
Great guys!:thumbs-up: Tried to rep every contributor but some of you guys need to wait until I pass some around before I rep you again.:redbong:
1) Keep your grow room and the surrounding area clean. It's the easiest way to avoid a pest problem. 2) if the product discription sounds too good to be true, it most likey is. Ask and experienced grower before wasting your hard earned $$& 3) don't try to reinvent the wheel. 4) let the plant be a friggin plant & quite fucking with it all the time.
Best advice i got on here regarding growing? God theres way too much to remember. Most likely being advised to low stress train the plant. Although i always thought the biggest thing on here that got responded to so well was when 'saxby' introduced his hempy bucket. That was a few years ago and it really caught on among the forum. Funny how things change,it used to be dumb to cut fan leaves ,it was our lowest green rep but now we have reputable growers using it as a method to increase yield. A lot of good grow advice gave out on here. A simple tip i always found with regard to the height of your lights,if you place your palm of hand on top of plant...if the light burns..your too close.Simple but totally effective advice.:icon_salut:
The Basic Formula for Success Correct PH, Proper Feeding (Useless Formula), Proper Substrate, Strong Ventilation, Correct Temps, Air Movement, Big Roots, Big Plants, Big Lights (600+), Good Strains, Correct Drying, Long slow curing... = Big Yields, Tasty Buds, and motivation to do it right all over again
Patience. Follow advice. If you see someone's grow that you like, ask advice, then use it. If their system looks easy and the yeilds are better than yours, copy it. Don't try to second guess somebody who has already done all the hard work. Patience. I was going to say about tents and panda film, I put mine on the inside and tuck it under the cross members. Patience. Find the way you like to grow and stay at it. Sometimes the first go around isn't going to be the best results you can get. Patience. Watch your plants. Figure out what they're trying to tell you. Don't wait till you see something wrong. Every once in a while check the pictures of different plant issues to try to remember what they look like. It will come in handy and save a lot of time when you don't have time. Patience. You don't need a lot of money to spend on nutes. A lot of company's will tell you anything. Your money would be better spent on the important stuff ie: lights, fan, filter, medium. Patience.
Keep your pimp hand strong... I had a green KF about 2 weeks into flower, that even after topping a while ago, was getting close to 7 feet tall, which sticks noticeably above the top of the fence. As it grew even taller, I agonized for a week about what to do. After summing up a whole lot of "don't give a fuck", I pinched the 2 offending tops, bent em over 90 degrees and supported them with a straightened coat hanger. Sure looked real ugly for a few days. Two weeks later, its all healed up, with several new tops growing nicely on the horizontal section. Might have lost some yield, but it's much better than attracting the wrong kind of attention. I could have saved myself a whole lot of worrying, if I'd just done it and been done with it. Might have increased the yield some, too. Keep it strong! One other thing: Don't run out of supplies. There shouldn't be a need for a midnight run to the hydro store. Or UPS overnight delivery. Lastly: Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. The less one has to physically handle it, the easier life is. Pipe it, pump it, use gravity, anything to avoid carrying it, is a good thing. OS
IMO, the best thing a grower can do is learn to read the plant. There are always a million and one solutions for a given problem. The key is knowing exactly what the problem is to provide the correct solution. But better still, knowing your plants prevents most problems anyway.
Air flow is extremely important if you don't move the air around you will get mold and that will drive you insane when you got 1 oz donkey dick buds with some mold/mildew hiding in em. Happened to me once and I have vowed never again after I threw about a pound in the garbage...Steelnuts not to be confused with steel erection...
