I just noticed that most of my plants have some pale yellow, maybe off white looking spots on the soil. Is this mold? If it isn't, what else could it be? Is it harmfull if it's on the soil? What should I do about it? I searched around but couldn't find anything of substance to help me out. Thanks.

If it looks yellow and powdery it could be pollen. I would look real closely under all nodes for any hidden balls in there. Make sure to lift leaves and look under the skirt. What is the humidity like and how good is ventilation?

Herb,  I have babies a little over a week old.  I don't think it's pollen.  I probably should have mentioned that earlier.

The humidity is low (don't know what %)and my vent. is ok for the fluros.  Temps are never higher than 75 degrees.

It doesn't look like powder either. It kinda looks like little tiny paint splatters.

I found these via Google on molds, mildews, etc on topsoil:

Is there any other vegetation in the immediate area?

    What medium?

    Chemicals/organics added?

    Hydric or sometimes dry?

    What color are your lungs?

Indi, those pics look nothing like what I have.

I grow in soil, and I haven't added any any ferts. of any kind yet. No other veg. in the area and I let the soil dry almost all the way before I water again. As far as my lungs, I smoke about 5 cigeretts a day along with about a gram of mj. But I don't know what type of answer other than that your looking for on the lungs Q.

About a month ago, I had some pretty moist bud that I put in jars. It got a little moldy because I was out of town for a couple days. I noticed the same specks on the bud and thats why I thought this was mold. I don't see anyway it could have gotten from that bud to my seedlings though. My growbox is totally isolated from the rest of my house. Well, it's in my bedroom and there is no traffic of any kind in there. It's possible that it could be the first pic, but only a couple spores. I don't know if single mold spores are visible to the naked eye. I just remembered that I have an 100x eyeloop, so I will look at the specks through that and see what I can come up with. Thanks Indi.

After looking at the "specks" under the loop, they still looked like little cream colored dots. I don't think they're alive. They also seemed to have vanished when I watered last.

if it is "off-white" and on the surface, it could potentially be salt build up. and if thats the case, you need to flush, and maybe use better quality water for the duration of the grow. just a possibility
