Using a 4" carbon filter with 6" ducting.

I think I read on here that someone used a 6" carbon filter with 8" ducting. [skunky maybe?]

I have a 4" carbon filter. I'm using a 6" 424cfm fan that cools my light, and takes the air out of the grow space. I can use an adapter to fit the 4" filter on the 6" ducting.

I just want to know what you guys that know about or have used a carbon filter before think about this...

Oh, and I would only be using it for ~60 days until this grow is finished. Then I would sell this one and buy a 6" one. I just don't have eBay access for the time being, or any extra cash to spare.

Oh, and I know it will reduce the airflow. How much? I have a 1000w HPS that's being cooled by the fan, if I use the carbon filter will it still cool it sufficiently. I can lower the ambient temperatures to the mid 60's, but I don't want the light to explode or be on the verge of being unstable.

Yup man just use the 4-6" reducer on the filter and secure it to the filter good then just pull your ducting over the reducer. I actually ziptied the ducting on both the 8" and 6" part of the reducer, that's how this is hooked up.

Only problem with doing that is the chance that the CF will not work properly. A 6" fan will push more air than the 4" CF can clean. Hopefully you will be alright.

    Cool.

As long as it removes 50% or more of the smell I'm cool.

I really don't even need it, I just want to be extra safe.

I got my stuff relocated, and am going to use it over there.

No problems with the 8" fan pulling through the 6" scrubber. In fact I went over there almost two weeks ago and they had put the fan on the timer with the lights for some reason. Anyways Walked in the house and it stunk pretty bad when you got to the kitchen, had them turn the fan back on 24/7 and no problem at all in the house or around the house.
