Starting fresh, I went a got a solid core door 36x80" to replace my old warped workbench top I was going to draw a grid and some basic angles like on my building board and coat it with clear fiberglass resin. Do you guys have notes or guides on your bench or better finishing techniques to recommend?
Damn man that looks all Professional and shit. I'd consider the clear epoxy then put a brick on just in case the wind get up. Be Cool, CG
Depends... What kind of work do you usually do on your workbench? And what's that aluminum thing with the square tubing?
I'd put a brick on it. Nice plane, I'm in the process of making two shaker style clocks, one cherry and one pine.
The aluminum thingie is a "tapering jig" (harbor freight special) I use it for duplicating angles. I'll use it here with the long level to make common angle markings on the surface like a building board My benches are always multipurpose this one needs to be able to handle building wings, rebuilding small engines, cleaning firearms, hot wire foam cutting...etc etc I've started the grid, but the position really makes my back squeal, so I can only get a couple lines in before I gotta take a break. This was sooo much easier when I was 14 Happy Hobbyin'
Pics needed My father in law has about 350 clocks...need any parts? The GeeBee was an old build, I was just trying to show the building board
I've never had a workbench with a grid on it. Might come in handy. And you could play a mean game of Scrabble on it too.
I wound a 116 inch length of 22awg nichrome wire for a heating element and run it at 120 volts through my old varivac for a 600 watt element.. That turns it red hot.. I also use my old varivac for a 3 foot hot wire.. I start at zero and bring it up till the wire is less than red hot.. Doesn't take much 110 voltage to melt the nichrome wire... You need to be careful with alternating current.. An old electric train transformer is good for a hot wire.. You can use stainless wire if you don't have nichrome.. This is my hot wire... made it out of pvc because of using 110 volts.. Don't know why it won't show a full image
The variac is used to vary the voltage to the Hotwire. I'm using stainless MIG wire 308L I have .023 and .035" Good to know 80" will work
