I'm pissed, disgusted and wondering what the f I decided to go to seedbay and set up an account so I can put some of my seeds on it. I have a few thousand left from last crop. so I'm reading thru the "How it works" section so I can do it. well as I'm reading thru I see this "When the Auction or Buy Now has ended, 50% will be subtracted from the final price for Seedbay operating expenses and 50% of the final price will be for the seller." ok I know it provides a service which most of us cannot provide themselves, but 50%? come on now. I know the world runs on taking as much money from the people as they can, but sometimes I see greed not help as the reason for such pricing. Who the F* do they think they are? Anyone else see this as a f* money grab by greedy corporate types?
That's pretty standard for consignment shops and general retail. Wal-Mart buys widgets for a buck and sells them for two. Not that that makes it a happy situation, but it is the norm.
That's the price of Seedbay Don. Pay or......well.....don't move your seeds. Or put up a sight, buy a website design, secure a .com, a server, advertise your site on the net, get yourself set up with an LLC or similar, get a tax ID # and run the sales from your living room. Of course if you live where seed sales are illegal then you would have to set all this up AND have somebody in a legal seed country handle the seed stock and shipping for you anyway and pay them to do it. 50% isn't looking so bad to me now.
The reason these places and other business' as well get away with charging exhorberent prices is because no ones got the balls to say fuck you I won't pay it. do you not think if enough people said no, they'd have to listen. or sell nothing or have nothing to sell. I dont "need" to sell my seeds, I just have an old strain climatized to a latitude/region and was hoping to share it around.
It's up to you Don. But even if they go for a $1 a seed and you get $.50 that mouse food will be costing you over $8000 per pound in lost seed income.
They provide a one stop shop for hobby breeders, old stock turn over for serious breeders and visibility for upstart wanna be's. Anytime you get a place that has put together the marketing, payment, shipping and customer service under one roof for you as a consumer/retailer to use....it's going to cost. You're essentially "renting" sq/footage in their online store. Add in that there are few places in the western markets that allow legal seed sales and they have quite the commodity. Me? If I had a few thousand to sell on an occasional basis I'd just list-em and ship-em then wait for the check. Ease and convenience have value to me. Besides the choice is to say "fuck you!" then go spend several thousand $$ and a couple hundred hours setting up your own outlet.
100% is less than standard for the seed market. Like RR said, seed banks offer a service that breeders are willing to pay for. If you went to seedboutique.com and found out what Gypsy paid per pack of seeds you see his mark up would be over 100%.
Well it's like this getting 50 cents on a dollar from a fuck up isn't bad. I say fuck up because if I'm growing pot I don't want any seeds it called SINSEMILLA just my 2 cents-Bud
A shit ton! A well dusted plant will produce thousands. Once you do it you will learn how insanely overpriced seeds are. :321fu:
I go to auctions all the time, I have sold stuff at auctions, bought stuff at auctions and never do I pay more then 15-20% fees. I had figured on 30+% just not 50%. Mice seem quite happy tonight. I don't NEED to sell my seeds, but since they are an old breed untouched in yrs I figure someone would like them to breed with. I will consider the prices. as it says on their site, you need to supply them with seeds for free for themselves. so if I sent 10,000 seeds how many for testing? 10 lots of a 100 to check germ? or if it was only a 1000 then a 100 for testing? not sure as it didnt say. Then I pay for shipping, packaging, all in all it makes my 50% most likely 20%. and yes some retailers double or more the prices, how-ever a large % do not, some work on 10% margins, even less. When I was in business before I got sick 5 yrs ago I had a 20-25% mark up and was priced high. Walmarts/ Big Box Stores of the world are less then 10% of retail sales.
It seems like they just want you to give them the seed for nothing & they make all the money . I hope your mice enjoy them & fuck seed-bay. That's the problem now days everybody want to make a killing off of everything.More people need to tell them to get fucked :thumbs-up: -Bud
chronic don not sure you have stopped to think of what you will make as opposed to what you will lose.... all biz's have operating expenses...take the total of all expenses and the charge what you want.....its your biz....profits vary a bunch in biz....from a percentage of 1 percent to thousands of percent...really... so if you want to make money...you need to think about what you WILL make instead of what everything COSTS..... being in biz with someone who does everything except provide product and charges 50%, you should just charge according... it all sounds like a way to make good money....if you have quality seeds and the word gets out...i have seen some crazy prices on seebay... good luck man.. ps if you need a tester pm me...i would be glad to help a brother out and give my assessment of the product....i have room to do a few plants...and r u making fem seeds as well?
If they're 'untouched in yrs.', are you sure that they're even viable? And who wants to count-out 10,000 seeds?!! Feed the rodents.
Any retailer operating at 10% mark up is dealing with high volume sale items. Such as food retailers etc. Asda/Walmart for example. MJ seed banks are dealing in a novelty low turnover items. To run at a 10% markup would put every seed bank under within months.
